Any one done a hitch install on a Cayenne?  My "new" 06 will come without a hitch, so I will need to have one installed. (Boat doesn't tow itself)  Just don't want to pay the dealer $2400 to do it.

If it isn't too late (meaning you haven't purchased the cayenne yet), it would be much better to find one with the factory tow package.  If you've already got the car, I would recommend doing a search on the rennlist cayenne forum... this issue has been discussed (including instructions on the install, other non-OEM options, etc)

My understanding is that the cayennes without factory tow packages have an aluminum bumper... the ones with factory tow packages have steel bumpers.  Lots of modifications have to be done to get the factory tow kit to work (removing the old bumper, notching your bumper cover, installing the wiring harness - which requires removing the cargo compartment panels - installing the control unit, programming the ecu, etc).

I think you can get the factory tow package from Sunset imports for about $800.  Then you can bring the parts to the dealer and pay for the install (at the 3 1/2 hr rate) or depending on how handy you are, you might try it yourselfSmile

We were able to get the dealer to do it for $1700.  Saves my time and it will be covered under the CPO warranty. Thanks for the feedback.
