Spring Fling: Sunday April 15th 2007
Lambertville, NJ

A spirited drive along the Delaware River and through the quiet back-roads of Eastern PA. Come equipped with a camera, your Porsche and ready for a ride to blow the winter cobwebs off your car.

Meeting point:
Lambertville Municipal Court
25 S Union St, Lambertville, NJ 08530

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=25+S+Union+St,+Lambertville,+NJ+08530&ie=UTF8&z=19&ll=40.364578,-74.944664&spn=0.001294,0.00224&t=h&om=1&iwloc=addr

Arrive: 7:15 to 7:45am
Driver's Meeting 7:45am
Depart: 8am Sharp!

Suggestions on logistics:
i) Arrive with a full tank of gas. There is a gas station in Lambertville, but I don't know if it's open early on a Sunday, so you should fill up somewhere on the home stretch close to Lambertville.
ii) If you have 2 way radios, bring them, as we'll have them and can all tune into the same channel.
iii) Arriving early is good. Looks like we'll have a good turnout, so getting there early gives you time to grab a coffee and donut from the coffee shop around the corner on Bridge street and stand around talking with others and admiring the cars. I aim to be there nice and early.
iv) bring a camera and take lots of photos. I think I'll also be rigging my camcorder into the car to enjoy the ride.
v) If you have a map that covers upper bucks county, PA, then it will not hurt to bring it. The directions we've pulled together (I think) are pretty good, but on the off-chance that you get separated it will be good to have members of the group with maps.
vii) With this being a large group we may (as mentioned in an earlier post), depending upon final numbers, split the group into two and have them run in opposite directions in order to allow for less bunching and a more enjoyable ride.
viii) The route is designed with fast stretches, as well as slower (curvy) fun stretches. These speed differences will naturally spread out the group and allow you space to have fun. The run can be done without a navigator if you stay close to a car with a navigator, but it's best to have someone in the car directing, as I'd hate to see anyone get lost.
ix) The PCA is kindly sponsoring this run, but we will also have guests joining us from Rennlist, so please come and find me (you know the car by now) when you arrive and sign in. This will get you a copy of the route and have you sign a PCA waiver that covers the organizers in case something bad happens.
x) Have fun, but be careful with your speed until we get out of Lamberville. It is a 25 mph zone until we get out of town and the police do sit there with radar - don't worry, we'll be out of town in a few minutes and I'd hate for us to get a police escort up to the NJ border.

My hope is that we get in and out of Lambertville before we attract too much attention.

We will be in and out of Lambertville in less than 1 hour.

As for passing opportunities - pass where it's legal and safe. The route has plenty of passing opportunities.

you do know that it's customary for the route creator to provide lunch and beverages, right?Big Grin

That's not what Ken told me. Wink

I'm thinking that we could start with breakfast/social then drive for several hours up in the backroads.

I've gotten significant interest from the Rennlist 996s, so there may be a fair number from there that show up also. Smile

Right now I'm thinking of a route around the NE Allentown/NJ border areas, but am open to suggestions on the route. Closer to Bucks county might work, but I'll have to dig deeper to find un-populated areas.

Mac - design it and we will come. I have the date saved an it will be a nice escape after mailing away my check to Mr. Bush. Confusedhock:

Thanks. yeah, I was amused that it coincided with Tax day. Smile

Well, I've also invited Rennlisters - if they show up, then we're in for a very good caravan. The numbers are looking really good. Now we jut have to find some good roads.

So far we have people from NY, CT, NJ, PA, MD and DE saying that they'll show. Smile

They lie.

- Wellardmac - 02-11-2007

Yeah, I figured, but even so the response has been good. We'll see how many show.

I personally wouldn't come so far for a drive, but the PA/NJ crowd that it was aimed at seem enthusiastic.... we've been talking about it since November, so it was good to start planning.

I'm prepared to put a decent amount of effort into doing this a couple of times, but if the interest isn't there, then I'll just do the drives by myself when the mood hits me. Smile

We'll see how our schedule looks as we get a little closer to the date.  It would be fun to take the Boxster out on a group run.

Tony, you actually have until April 17th to send your check to Mr. Bush and to Fast Eddie (PA). If you e-filed your returns, you could go and enjoy the day knowing that any $$ owed would be debited on a date that you selected.
