Thoughts and Perspectives - jgiannone - 12-18-2022

For those who have any thoughts or perspectives, I'd love to hear them.

I've been working with the Rules Chairman and Rules Committee of PCA Club Racing for some time now, trying to get a handle on why car counts are down from 10-15 years ago, and most importantly, what can be done to increase participation. I've been around the RTR DE program for over 20 years now, so I've heard a lot of the arguments, both for and against, taking the step to racing. One argument that I think is very valid is the costs, or the perception of the costs. As the years have gone by, Porsche just loves to build and sell more and more race cars for the Club Race community, and where they are technically great and very fast, they are also very expensive to campaign, either in a DE or a race environment. One thing being discussed is re-arranging classes to allow for more competition between cars of similar performance, where the bodies are all of steel (modified street cars built between 2000 and 2015) so the are more easily and cheaply fixed, where they would run on generally inexpensive spec tires, and be limited to pump gas so as not to need the the $10 plus per gallon expense of 100 octane.

With that, anyone who has thoughts, perspectives, fears etc about taking the step to club level racing, can I ask you to share those with me.

Thank you, and happy holiday!
