Also works well on the strut tops on torsion bar cars.
Drill from the top and use a pry bar from the bottom and flop it out.

No not right now, I don't feel that adventurous. It's a big deal from what I've heard.

There is nothing to worry, the car is still 3000 lbs, and with the same oil burning engine. I am simply trying to keep up with the 20+ years of neglected maintenance.

Im debating on cutting the loop off my tow hook, or welding it back together.
The alignment washers move the tow hook down about an inch.
If the loop hits something wouldn't it be more of a direct impact? (speed bumps & driveways at low speed).
If the loop was gone I think it would be more of a glancing blow.
any ideas ??
