I was told but can not speak from experience that tear offs and wipers do not get along well. I was advised to use plastic polish and rainx to prepare the lexan to use wipers. I have done this and have not had a scratch issue.

Jim, from having to deal with this exact type of issue for many years with many of my clients I can tell you if you have an opportunity to have someone else pay for it you are far better off in the long run by pressing for factory glass. There are a couple of issues I have seen with my clients cars over the years when an aftermarket glass was installed, 1.not the correct size so an installer will many times do what he has to in order the get the glass in. This many times presents issues of excessive windnoise because the glass doesn't fit tightly in the body. 2. over a period of time the sealant will start to break apart and water will inevitably get into the cabin of the car.
I had to make a claim one time wth Hagerty my insurance carrier for a replacement of the windshield, handled without issue and Porsche glass was installed.
Glen, I assist my clients with stuff like this on a daily basis, unless there is body damage to the car I have yet to see an inspection performed by an adjuster for just the replacement of the windshield. When mine was done 4 years ago in my Carrera, a phone call was all it took.

15 lbs or so
