- CarreraSupercharged - 03-24-2011 Nick, a Snell 1995 does not mean I purchase the helmet in 1995!!! It was actually bought in 2003. Snell is a certificatioj not a manufacturer stamp date. As a side note, my helmets are motorcycles which are usualy built with air vents,.. so at 100 mph bthere is no sweats..... - Craigs*84 - 03-24-2011 I am signed up but not quite ready yet, ... it looks like it's going to be close :? .. If my car isn't ready in time I'll bring my RTR pom-pom's and cheer you guys on ! I will be joining the caravan either way... "V" how's your car coming along ? - csmith74 - 03-24-2011 CarreraSupercharged wrote: Quote: It was actually bought in 2003. Snell is a certificatioj not a manufacturer stamp date. Stephan, if you're thinking about replacing your bucket try www.apexperformance.net. You can get clear definitions of the various ratings as well as find new helmets for a decent price and their turnaround for me was about two days. If you're shopping the link for helmets it will only show you the 2010 rated lids, to get a wider selection you have to shop by brand. I have a G-Force, there are also pretty good helmets in the Bell and HJC lists. Nick, that was Stephans transmission you were smelling, not his helmet. He has it fixed now.. - csmith74 - 03-24-2011 Craigs*84 wrote: Quote:I am signed up but not quite ready yet, ... it looks like it's going to be close :? .. Yikes, that would be a sight that might cause some crashes. Good luck on the install! - CarreraSupercharged - 03-24-2011 csmith74 wrote: Quote:CarreraSupercharged wrote: Thanks Chuck I'll take a look at the site. I don't want to spend too much money on a new helmet as I already have 5 at home still in very good condition. I used to Buy SHOEI and ARAI, but I don't have that kind of money laying around anymore. I saw a few IKON at decent pricing, anyone has a good feedback from these guys. Thanks - Vytenis - 03-24-2011 Helmets: For track events, I thought 2005 was required, not 2010????? Engine still in many little pieces. Working on it tonight, but it won't be together for our first event. If I am in town 4/3, I will attend but may not drive. Oh OK I'll drive whatever I bring. "V" - Tony356993 - 03-24-2011 DE requires 2005 from what I read. Someone with authority will chime in I'm sure. - betegh9 - 03-24-2011 I don't have any authority, but I know that a helmet is good for 10 years. The Snell 2000 helmets were good till the 2010 ones came out (1 year late for some odd reason). The 2005 helmets will be outdated when the 2015 units will be available, regardless when you bought them. The odd thing is that I have not been able to notice the difference of the helmets from one Snell to the next. If I take the same helmet model from Bell, one is a 2005 and the other a 1010, I can't tell the difference. Is this the same scheme that is used with harnesses?.......... Built in ABSOLESENCE? Can someone help me broaden my knowledge?hock::? - Brian Minkin - 03-24-2011 Nick, Just as the webbing on belts deteriorates with age and exposure to the sun so does the liner of a helmet. The shell may still look brand new but what is inside is part of the protection package and the liner goes bad. We have a bunch of snell 95 helmets as RTR loaners for AX and when you look at the liner it is shrinking and coming apart. Infact we need to solicit donations of newer loaners because the 95's are so bad I do not think we even want to use them for AX. - Tony356993 - 03-24-2011 Brian, I might have a few to donate. I will check the shop. |
