Tri-power usually came on the 400hp motor. The 435hp motor had a 4 barrel w/solid lifters, vs. the 425hp motor that had hydraulic lifters. There was also a 450hp motor, same engine as the 435hp, only with a different decal on the air cleaner. Silver Pearl w/Black, 4spd, 41k miles. Used it for 3 years as my daily driver. Bought it in '78 for $4,900 and sold it in '81 for $8,200, which was a lot of money back then to a 23yo guy! Used that money to buy a Bricklin w/2,000 orig miles for $10,000 (was looking for a Pantera), then sold the Bricklin for $17,000 two years later and got the Pantera.

You are correct, the club is made up of people, people that share a common interest, OUR CARS! You want a people club, join Facebook. Tongue

How about embarrassing rides?

My actual first car was '73 AMC Gremlin. Three speed stick. Impossible to be cool driving that.

Party on Wayne!

Chris:

We had a Gremlin and my grandparents had an AMC Ambassador that was a little longer than a UPS truck. It was humiliating. To make matters worse, I had a Chevy Vega....which in high school, believe it or not, could fit eight people if you used the hatchback!

I told people I had a Vette, omitting the prefix, Che.  5 people and a weeks worth of luggage for each all the way to Fort Lauderdale for Spring Break.

Now I can tell people I have a Chevette, omitting the roletCor.

No problemo! I think I have Genie and Ginger's numbers somewhere also....

One of my earliest cars was a Ford Escort "GT". I finally now understand how ridiculous it is to have a rear spoiler on a front-drive car. Iron block + Aluminum head+ bonehead driver= blown gaskets x2. Final death hit occurred when the muffler fell off at speed, launching the whole rear end of the car off the ground and trashing the underside. Aghhh Good times!

Well, to me, past cars tells me a lot about the people I already know.    Eric's 1.9 HO EGT--wouldn't have guessed but good stuff.    Dave's Panterra & Esprit---more good stuff.   Aaron's (shh) Vette---funny.

This forum is only a supplement to our friendships.    Avatar's, signatures are ways to enhance/personalize the friendships.

Honestly, to get to Chevette and Escort GTs discussion would require multiple rainy track weekends which I hope are not in store for 2010.   We're better friends for it.
