Actually, many or most Auto policies have been reworded in the last few years to clearly exclude any form of track activity, including DE.  I know my prior Allstate policy was - which precipitated me looking for another carrier.

So, "your normal policy would probably NOT cover that type of loss....ONCE."

No one should count on their normal auto policy covering even one incident at an on track DE event without first checking the policy language - generally you you find the exclusionary wording in the "Not Covered" or "Exclusions" sections of the policy.

The ACE / Bankers policy mentioned above is currently an exception to this trend.  Can't speak to probability of non-renewal after an incident but the agent of the individual who had the accident at Monticello indicated there was no adverse action - maybe there will be at next renewal...

I called my State Farm agent about 10 days before the Ronald McDonald weekend, about 6 days later, after checking with the underwriter they emailed me to say that I was covered for the weekend.

Regardless of what the underwriter said to your agent it is the language in the policy that is the bottom line. This is the exclussion in a State Farm PA Automobile Policies.

New Coverage Exclusions

There is no Liability Coverage while a vehicle is off public roads and being prepared for, used in practice for, or operated in any racing, speed, hill-climbing, jumping, or other similar contest; or on a track designed primarily for racing or high-speed driving.

There is no Physical Damage Coverage while a vehicle is being prepared for, used in practice for, or operated in any racing, speed, hill-climbing, jumping, or other similar contest on any road; or on a track designed primarily for racing or high-speed driving

You are not covered by State Farm when the vehicle is "on a track desgned primarily for racing or high-speed driving".

Thankfully I didn't need to delve into the smallprint....!!

State Farm in PA changed the policies about three years ago to exclude anything on the track, just as Brian notes. It was a sad day!

Don't be misled by what your agent tells you--read your policy. SOME policies do not exclude all "on track" driving, but State Farm in PA and many others do. What your agent tells you will not bind the insurance company.

(In the UK it is common to get insurance for racing, but it is expensive. I have not bothered with that.)

I don't think any regular insurers cover DE anymore.

Yup, and always exactly the same "so and so said it's covered". Just get the copy of your policy, read it, and don't ask questions.

Well, you could always call your insurance company, say you totaled your car at Watkins Glen, and see what they say.  After you have their final decision, call and say, "Punked!"

Do you say "punked" before or after you are arrested?
