BTW, weaving may scrub the tires clean, but it does not heat them. Braking and accelearting heats the tire by flexing it. At least that's the way it is on motorcycles, and I think it's much the same with car tires.

I think poor throttle control while feeding in steering input was probably his demise. Guys and girls that are good can go wicked quick on stone cold tires.

From what I have been told by the experts the tire "Warming" weave is not effective and is really only good for scrubbing off debris from sticky tires. It does not increase the heat in the tires in the distance available on a road course before you need to get on the line.

This one is hard to believe it could happen. Tony said it occurred about 30 feet out of the pits so he sure could not have done much weave. Powerful cars and cold tires require good car control and some knowledge of the way your particular car responds to lots of throttle. I do know that in my car on very cold tires full throttle in second gear will bring the rear out and require correction in both steering and throttle input to keep it straight.

I have been a proponent of first lap under yellow to avoid drivers starting out at the speeds they obtained in the proceeding session which seems to be the way some drivers come out of the pits later in the day after they have completed 2 or 3 sessions and in subsequent days.

Exactly my point but I know it's tough to hear the little bit of sarcasm when reading my post Big Grin. Most people that do it aren't doing it to clean their tires.

The secong part of the post was lending itself to the fact that the temperature outside was a bit cold and hence the tires weren't up to operating temp. Even so, as you mentioned Brian, wheelspin can and should be controlled.

Should we protecting people from themselves?

I'm ok with the 1st lap of the 1st session of the day going yellow. The flip side to a yellow 1st lap each session is that it leads to trains.

If a jack--- wants to pass me after turn one with cold tires on a cold track, I'd gladly give the point (and give him/her distance) and try and guess exactly when they will have an incident.

Chris,

If things stay busy, you might show up with a 997 Cup car for your next event. Big Grin

He heard doing a burnout would heat the tires but since the gt3 make so little power he never really had the oppertunity to experiment with this concept to learn how to do it properly. I usually weave back and forth to see what the level of available grip is and because I saw people do it on Days Of Thunder. Great movie you would be amazed at how much you can pick up.

I knew I picked up that technique somewhere.

That's where I learned how to deal with Doctor's........

Ok, how many of you need to go back and watch it to see what I'm talking about?
