- 198491132 - 08-27-2009 I took additional time around the sensors.....measured improper ohms at the connection pins #1 and #2 (ref sensor). The speed sens measures good - according to Bentley specs. Not sure how or why, but I either missed the first two readings, or the sensor became damaged during all this testing. Most likely I screwed up.... So..if in fact, the readings are showing bad...and the car will not start..working on replacing the sensor. I just spent a few hours.....just getting the 5m allen loose. I have broken it loose, but still very very difficult to turn. Soaked it with Blaster, letting it sit a bit. Not sure how to test the ignition switch, I do get 12volts to the coil (primary) side when ignition is "on". And I get a single spark at the same time out of the coil. The switch was replaced a few years back.....so it is not the orginal one in there. Myles has offered to stop by and help me work the sensor...I think I need it..... - cjbcpa - 08-27-2009 Dave, I'm just up the road in Pennsburg. Stand by..... - bobt993 - 08-28-2009 Quick and easy way to set the flywheel sensor gap: I believe 1mm is the spec ( 993 likely the same). Buy a cheap set of feeler gauges at NAPA. Use the thickness of the one just less the 1mm. Cut off a dime size piece and laminate it with a strip of duct tape on each side leaving a tail 6inches long (no stick). This should stick to the flywheel side of the sensor magnetically. Position the sensor back in the car and press the sensor towards the flywheel leaving the shim you made between it. snug the bolts up. Pull the tail to remove the new tool you made out of the gap. I had to do this last week before my race weekend. I then labelled the duct tape with a sharpy "do not throw out, flywheel gauge". - 198491132 - 08-31-2009 As I was able to get the sensor out without taking the orginal bracket off or loose, I was simply going to re-install to the original gap. (it ran for years)....is that not a good assumption? Dave - Larry Herman - 08-31-2009 It should be ok. I'm not sure how critical the gap is, but if you did not move the bracket, then it should reference right back in place. - 198491132 - 08-31-2009 Varoooom....started with the new reference sensor. Thanks for the help, everyone.....greatly appreciated!!! Now there is a slight miss over 2,000 RPM's only when driving. When sitting still, revs all the way up, no issue. And yes, you did a ton of seemingly useless electrical testing, but think of what you learned. If only everyone knew their cars as well. Now, I have a small mis to deal with over 2K under load. Ordered a new cap and rotor, going to change the plugs today. The car is telling me to pay attention!...so I am. Dave |
