Actually, it's not an understatement, even though I've had a good bit of track time -- I really am awful at AutoX.  A flat plane, littered with little orange cones, doesn't seem to provide my brain with enough input to determine where I should turn next.

I am new, a transplant from the Metro NY chapter.  Was a member there from 1986, but inactive since 1996.  I missed the involvement, so I finally looked up the chapter in my new neighborhood.  Met a few people on Saturday @ Dougherty's Tech session, which was my first contact.  In NY I was most heavily involved in DE an was an instructor there for years, but I would try to support other activities when time permitted.  Once the AX chair at Metro twisted my arm to come to an event (had the 944 CSR at the time) and although the car showed itself quite well, the driver had everyone laughing themselves silly.  But, since I don't humiliate easily, I am always willing to try to learn something new, and perhaps -- at worst -- provide the comedic portion of the event.  PBD are my initials -- not clever, but easy for me to remember.

Pbd! I will guess that the "p" stands for Paul? I like to address people by their first name or the name they give to their car.
I have run accross some of the Metro NY guys last year at the Zone 1 Championship AX. They ARE a bunch of crazy guys and they are fun to compete against. This coming season there will be a challenge between NNJR and Metro. 2 days oF AX. Will be lots of fun. Will tell you more if you'd like.
Don't fear the cones, they only guide you (rather than a road) to the promised land in less than 60 seconds. the key is to walk the course as many times as you need to till you can do it in your mind with your eyes closed. Then, when you drive it, KEEP looking ahead 2 to 3 gates ahead from where you are at any given point, and the rest is really the same as track driving.........smooth, the apex, smooth, the line, SMOOTH. You know the routine.
You have heard the saying that: IF AUTOCROSS WERE ANY EASIER.....IT WOULD BE CALLED "ROADRACING"

Nick,

Thanks for the input -- If I can get some local practice (and maybe learn somthing) I'll look at the schedules (RTR & Metro) and see if anything fits with my calendar.

Best regards,
Paul
