Every course has its turn that requires a little extra respect.  Don't see this as a reason not to run it.  After all it is DE and not racing so we certainly should be able to minimize the risk with a pointer or two at the drivers meeting about the turn.

What is even more fun is turning right into the North course from the main straight. Big sweeper that lets you carry lots of speed.  To bad we don't have the full track and run the IMSA course.

ERrrrr , if you turn right onto Nascar, won't you end up in the tunnel turn going towards South Course???

Brian,  I think your confusing running North CW vs CCW (reverse).   Or..... the word "right" does not intend a specific direction.Tongue

Bob, I am talking about running the full course cw which uses the infield of the north course CCW or opposite the way we run the north course. At the end of the grand stand straight you make a right into the north course. Exit from the infield is a right at the tunnel turn which is really tight and the wall is looking right at you. Thats the turn to respect running the full course.

Now I understand, you were discussing running the course backwards, but switched back to the normal CW direction.  I will line up behind you when entering the course, so I know which way you intend to turn.  Wink

It's too bad I cannot edit this poll. I'll try another one that might be better.

After a few moments more thought, I agree that running Shendandoah CCW (anticlockwise) is not a great idea, at least not for part of an event. This course can be pretty overwhelming for a new driver and I suspect even our advanced drivers have not had enough time with it to appreciate all the lines that make sense. Jack, I'd love to hear more about "the conventional line is dead wrong on many of its corners."

I think you're backwards, but I'm sure everyone knew what you meant. Today, we currently run Shenandoah counter clock-wise. So, if we ran it clock-wise, that would be backwards, right?

Yep, I looked at my (digital) watch again and confirmed that you have it right. Smile I was too busy being anticlockwise clever to get the direction right.

I'll be covering this in detail in my "Anatomy of the Track" classroom session on Sunday am. You, and anyone, are more than welcome to sit in.

However, in the meantime, watch this 2 lap video, courtesy of Mr. Turgeon, that I've editted for instruction purposes. He's taking the video, I'm the car in front.

Notice how many corners where we do not take the typical "edge of track - apex - edge of track" line. Specifically:

- the left hand esse immediately after pit out
- the Pistol Grip
- the left hander at the top of the hill after the carousel
- the 180 at the end of the back straight

The reason for each of these non-traditional lines is slightly different, and a bit too long to get into here, but the video shows you the correct approach to each of these corners.
