They are heavy and will always push in every corner, esp slow corners. The way around the problem (w/o eliminating the front diff and making the car 2WD) is to square off the slow speed corners entering slower and effectively making the next straight a bit longer so you will have more time on the boost. Where is Mike (#828)? Ask him about his turtle paced ride in the Carrera. hock: - jakp993 - 11-12-2007 catchacab wrote: Quote:jakp993 wrote:Agreed, and I'm the guy normally saying things like that!Quote:What I'm supposed to do in that situation is to dial it back to say 80%, be perfectly smooth, drive the perfect line, be conservative with traffic , etc. What you got was a 90 - 95% run with trail braking, lots of car rotation, very close conditions, and four wheel drifts.Best quote of the weekend (from a BMW guy to me and Paul), However, don't get me wrong. I was never into the "red mist". My best lap time in the session with Greg was a couple of seconds slower than the last run of the weekend, and I know I left at least a second on the table with that. I'll post the video when I get a chance. You'll see that I never used the extra run off in turn 10, had room left to track out in turn 9, and was conservative with my entry speed into turn 3. I guess I should qualify my percentages. That 90 - 95% was meant as a percentage of my normal driving when I'm solo in the red group.. That's somewhat misleading, cause I never drive at 100%. I'm just not good enough to do that consistently. I always leave mistake room. Trust me, I made sure I was in complete control all weekend. Spinning was NOT an option after my speech on Friday!!! Jack - George3 - 11-12-2007 Best quote of the weekend (from a BMW guy to me and Paul), "You will never win a DE, but you can lose one." +1. Isn't that the truth. I don't feel so bad sitting on the sidelines Friday. That's because, I made up for it Sunday. BTW, great event and great seeing everyone. - Phokaioglaukos - 11-12-2007 Tony356993 wrote: Quote:Where is Mike (#828)? Those hares don't stand a chance! - Sechsgang - 11-12-2007 jakp993 wrote: Quote:catchacab wrote:Quote:jakp993 wrote:Agreed, and I'm the guy normally saying things like that!Quote:What I'm supposed to do in that situation is to dial it back to say 80%, be perfectly smooth, drive the perfect line, be conservative with traffic , etc. What you got was a 90 - 95% run with trail braking, lots of car rotation, very close conditions, and four wheel drifts.Best quote of the weekend (from a BMW guy to me and Paul), Modesty at its max... I dont think I have ever been with a smoother driver...period...and when that smooth is coupled to how fast you are (turning far better times than Bstock cars and even Kenny's atleast for a couple of laps), your 95 percent goes a helluva long way!!! And I KNOW Kenny beats on his car harder than...well...use your imagination... - michael lang - 11-12-2007 All & all, my weekend was very productive and I accomplished everything I wanted to get past. Especially my timidness or hesitancy going through T4. I am finding that I really enjoy that bottom section of the track especially T5-T9, boy that was really fun. - Sechsgang - 11-12-2007 pshh...from what Ive heard...just drive faster...(shifty eyes) Yes, it can defintely be a pain in those slow corners but DAYUM, on corners like 10, the 4wd is just EVIL... - ninjabones - 11-12-2007 No worries Jack... That was exactly the type of run I wanted to see... I don't want anyone dialing back for me. I'm a big boy; I know the risk and can accept the consequences. Remember, I was one of the few guys who raised his hand when you asked if there were any vets in the crowd. I did spend the better part of my military life entrusting my life to a bunch of special ops aviators. If you want to be scared, try refueling over the East China Sea in a MH-53J in a storm or landing on an HLA at night in rough seas. Your run was a piece of cake in comparison... just rough on the innards as I was out of practice. Glen ("ninjadoc" in a former life) - jakp993 - 11-12-2007 Glen, I wasn't worried about scaring you. I doubt anyone in a car could do that after the experiences you described! My point was that the ride I gave you wasn't very instructional. Sure, it showed you what the car is capable of, but I didn't demonstrate techniques that you could immediately apply given your current experience. For example, I could have driven each corner with one completely smooth steering input by dialing it back another second. That's the technique we need you to concentrate on at this point in your development, and I missed my opportunity to show you that. But, what you hopefully noticed was the consistency from lap to lap (at least when we weren't passing or being passed). Same brake point, same turn-in, same apex, same track-out, etc. So maybe I did show you something to emulate after all cya next year! Jack - bobt993 - 11-12-2007 Jack, I should have you go for a ride with Cervelli........... His inputs were precise, but more abrupt. My car still understeers and making changes was not an option with sharing the car. Chris would get the car to rotate on the brakes without touching the ABS. It was a real treat to sit shotgun. We need to book his calendar for next year before he gets too busy. BTW in 4 laps he was able to give me his complaints about my car and what to do with it including a wheel bearing that is just starting to show it's age. I guess that is what pro level drivers must do for a living. |
