One is a product that is marketable to the public for entertainment and advertisement. I do not see a sports franchise deliberating over how much money goes towards their employees versus the local school system. (Maybe they should be funding our K-12 schools). Sports programs do however provide significant funding on a college level. The taxes that pro sports pay to the cities they visit are quite hefty and how that money is used is more of a local government issue. If you don't like how much an athlete makes, turn off the tv or get rid of the tickets. I happen to agree teachers should be compensated better, at least based on productivity and results. The lifestyle represented in other countries makes teaching a very respected career. Maybe we as a society need to become more grounded on values..... Occasionally we do see a very successful ball player actually funding a non-profit or giving to their school of choice. To think all the money is in a big pot that is skimmed by big strong football, basketball players leaving pennies for the rest of society is beyond silly. I would that rant juvenile in it's thought process. Hey, how bout them Phillies!!! to further my point as where the money goes that comes from the Pros...... http://www.ocregister.com/ocregister/sports/columns/article_1654569.php |
