A lot of people in this thread (myself included) included Pink Floyd as one of their top bands.

If you like Pink floyd, you should give Riverside (http://www.riverside.art.pl/eng/main.html) a listen.  They are a progressive rock band from Warsaw, Poland.

I particularly like their Second Life Syndrome and Rapid Eye Movement discs.  They are both available on iTunes.

Enjoy,
Jack

This has been a great thread, I have enjoyed seeing the range of musical tastes from all you guys.  I have been trying to come up with my list of favorites, I have such an eclectic taste of music. it is hard to narrow down the list.  My Itunes currently has over 33k songs, Apple needs to come out with a terrabite Ipod sooner than later!

I'm surprised no one mentioned The Clash. I'm from the era of the Beatles, Stones , Who & Zeppelin, but in my mind The Clash should be on everyone's short list of best bands. Whether you rank them for their political or musical sensibilities, they are truly impressive.

There was also a dynamic similar to the Lennon-McCartney tension in the Joe Strummer-Mick Jones partnership.

My iPod's current fav's list:

Robben Ford
Dream Theater - bootleg of them covering the entire Dark Side of the Moon album
Joe Satriani
Bucky Pizzarelli - Coming to Bethlehem in March

Can you tell I'm a guitarist.
