- Tony356993 - 02-12-2008 Experience what the car will do (and not do) when your traction circle is small. Go out and experience the car pushing and how if you turn the wheel less you will actually turn the car more. Lift mid turn and feel what happens to the car - and how to correct the boo boo. Brake too hard with the wheel turned a bit and see what happens. ETC! All of these little scenarios will help you understand what happens to the car at the limits of traction and can all be practiced with snow on the ground. Have fun, be safe & learn. All "practice" should be at safe speeds in a safe lot. RTR, the moderators, club officials & PCA do not in any way endorse these comments. I assume we are all mature adults and are using this advise for educational purposes only and assume all responsibility for our own actions. - Wellardmac - 02-12-2008 I learned some of my best car handling skills in snow in a parking lot - it's the best way to really get to know your car.... just be sure to pick a parking lot without light poles. - Brian Minkin - 02-12-2008 Did someone say Doughnuts? We have an RTR driver who has earned the nickname Doughnuts. Seemed he needed to turn his car around on a thin paddock road at Sebring and he used his throttle to accomplish this. Only did a 180 but was singled out at the drivers meeting the next day for doing "Doughnuts" - michael lang - 02-13-2008 I did just that exact thing last night. D.C. had a terrible sleet/ice storm last night and since I ended taking almost two hours to get home last night I decided to detour to an abanduned parking lot. Really got a better understanding of the traction circle. I tried to be as conspicuous as I could but when you're having so much fun you just can't help yourself to laugh a little. Excellent opportunity to learn!! - Hammerin Hank - 02-13-2008 I did a few e-brake pulls (fwd, non-porch) to park the car at Minella's last night and got some dirty looks from some old folks acrossed the way. Was that wrong of me? :dude: I guess my new nickname is Rally...lol - ccm911 - 02-13-2008 Actually, you should have then swerved at the old "cotton tops". It would have been considered a public service to rid Wayne of a few members of "The Old Guard". - Sechsgang - 02-17-2008 Why wait for the dry to do bad things with a rwd 500 hp car??? Why you guys think the T/E and Radnor cops hate fast cars so much? |
