Fellow Porsche Enthusiasts, following our announcement in last month’s Der Gasser regarding the launch of the 2008 AutoX season, ‘V’ and I are delighted to follow up this month with two more big announcements this month!

Firstly, it is our pleasure to confirm that the 2008 RTR AutoX will not only be moving to a terrific new location, it’s also been transformed into a charity event. The RTR ‘Planes and Porsches’[/b] Charity AutoX[/b] will be held at Reading Airport on Sunday 29[suP]th[/suP] June - please book the date in your diary now and see the picture below for a flavor of what to expect. In conjunction with Millennium Aviation and Vision Porsche of Reading, we are hoping to put on a memorable event which is not only great fun for new and old club members alike but which also raises thousands of dollars for charity. Millennium Aviation at Reading Airport have kindly agreed to allow us access to their corporate jet hangar, which will not only offer us some valuable shade from the summer sun but we are hoping to fill it with some hot jets and cool Porsche sports car for your viewing pleasure. The RTR ‘Planes and Porsches’ AutoX[/b] itself will be run on Millennium’s ‘runway ramp’ (no, not the runway itself although I did ask!) which is a perfectly flat tarmac’d area about the same size as KoP …. but without the lamp posts in the middle. We do have a word of warning though – if any planes do land and taxi up to Millennium, we will have to stop the event for a couple of minutes to let the plane pass but I’m sure you’ll agree that won’t be a problem! What else? On the day, we plan that every entrant will get at least 6 runs (3 in the morning & 3 in the afternoon) on a fun course set up by National AutoX Champion, Dave Newman of Specialty Cars; food and restrooms will be available on site; registration will be online using motorsportsreg.com[/i] (like DE); entry is likely to be limited to 50 slots; tech will open at 8am, first car off at 9.15am, 30 min lunch will be sometime in the middle, finish by 3pm and we are hoping to find a sponsor to provide post-event drinks!

MOST IMPORTANTLY, all profits from the RTR ‘Planes and Porsches’ AutoX[/b] will be donated to the ALS (aka Lou Gehrig’s disease) Association on behalf of 10 year RTR Member, Bob Wilderman, who was diagnosed with this terrible disease last year. Bob contacted us last month to ask for our support by participating in a charity walk in November but as Porsche enthusiasts with heavy right feet who prefer driving to walking, we thought the upcoming RTR AutoX would be the perfect event to express our support. For more information on ALS, click on http://www.alsa.org and we hope you will join us on Sunday 29[suP]th[/suP] June in order to help raise some money for the ALS association on behalf of one of our own members to fight this terrible disease.

Secondly, with the date of our own event now finalized, we are able to (finally) release the final schedule for the 2008 RTR AutoX+ Roadshow. The Roadshow is a ‘just for fun’ series for any RTR members interested in attending more local AutoX events.  In addition to holding our own ‘RTR Planes and Porsches AX’[/b] event at Reading Airport on 29[suP]th[/suP] June, we will also be attending 5 other local PCA & SCCA events over the summer months.  Please see another picture of the schedule below!  For those who would like to compete in our Championship, points will be awarded according to final finishing position, based on a PAX-scoring system designed to even out the performance of different types of cars.

After a great start to the season, we look forward to seeing you at the next RTR AutoX+ roadshow event at Hershey with Central PA PCA on Sunday 8[suP]th[/suP] June

Cheers,

Steve and “V?
