I'm looking at a PerformanceBox GPS based lap timer, G-force meter.  It is a self contained unit that also enables segment times.  It is mounted to the windshield with 3 generous sized suction cups.  Will this mounting method cause problems passing grid tech?  Thanks

Bill,

I use the performance box and it is a great little box.  I opted to hard mount it to the dash (where the ashtray was in my 993) and use the optional antenna mounted on the rear deck.  It works fine in the rear window even with the defroster in the window.  I find that setting segments in the car the 1st lap out is dificult so I use the software that comes with it to segment out corners and look at corner entry speed and exit speed usualy looking at an average lap and my fastest lap to see where I picked up time.

As a tech inspector I do require that all GPS and radar detectors mounted to the windshield be removed at the event so I think you would have some difficulty getting the windshield mount through our tech. That being said it is up to the tech chair to make such a decision.
