Fellow RTRers,

Just booked my trip to Stuttgart to see the new Porsche Mueseum - i leave in 10 days! Staying in downtown Stuttgart too - will be there for 5 days.

Any ideas on things i should DEF see and do? I have never been to Europe before.....

MANY pictures will follow upon my return.

Cool

Congratulations!  You're going to have an awesome time.

I'm from Stuttgart and was fortunately able to get in for a preview of the museum back in January- don't mind my drool on the floors....

Here's a short list for the Stuttgart area, PM me if you need more details:

1.  Mercedes museum.  Interesting from an automotive and European history perspective.

2.  Schloss Ludwigsburg

3.  Schloss Lichtenstein-  A must see!  Nice to spend the day touring the area.

4.  Scenic day drive.  Rt B27 towards Heidelberg.  Takes you along the Neckar river through wine country.  Can spend the day touring Heidelberg and return via Autobahn....

5.  Travelling with kids?  Wilhelma zoo.

6.  Downtown Stuttgart is nice for an afternoon stroll with many shops, museums etc.

7.  Drive of the Black Forest (South of Stuttgart)  Most maps have well marked scenic routes through the region.

Good luck with the planning and have fun!

You can't go wrong with E's suggestions.

If you have a rental car, take a drive through the Black Forrest Mtns to Baden-Baden.   There's a great, inexpensive, co-ed spa:

Still haven't made a decision to rent a car or not - how easy is it to do once were there? Lots of paperwork/etc.....id LOVE to get into a Porsche for a day and cruise around...

Keep the suggestions coming!

No problem renting while there.  Several locations exist including one at the Mercedes museum.  Advise booking in advance if looking for a specific car.  Paperwork is no big deal, not unlike renting a car stateside.  Getting around by train is easy also, but driving the Autobahn and back roads there is an unforgettable experience for car nuts....

Let us know if you have any specific interests, we may be able to help tailor things further.  Gute Reise!

Ok, now i am getting really pumped!

Two main things to take care of before i leave are tickets for a English-Speaking Museum tour and the inside track (pun intended) on renting a 911 (prefer 997) for the day to explore the surroundings (black forrest, etc)

Many thanks for the ideas so far --- is it the 27th yet?!

Have you checked out the offerings form Porsche?  I've always wanted to go on one of their outings   Cool

When you look at the dates, remember that the European style is the day first, then the month, i.e.   04.04. - 05.04.2009  =  April 4-5, 2009

Have fun!

Yes, i have seen those events from Porsche - they look very cool - but i decided to just go it on my own (with a good friend also)...

And thanks for the reminder on the dates but i was aware - i got a girlfriends birthday wrong once back in the day due to that switch (she was from Greece) and i have never forgotten! Smile

Enjoy your trip!

Pack warmly-  mixed snow/rain for the next few days...

Recommend Pretzel/ Weizen Bier/ and a Weisswurst (Veal+Pork sausage) upon arrival.  Highly addictive!

Post those pics upon return.....  -E
