just thought i'd start a new thread, with more clear description of my race, and easier to get to links to the vid clips!

here is the race report from last weekend's races at Summit Point -- it was mid to high 90s, and sunny, with no clouds; dreadfully hot both days, but Sunday was totally brutal (sat race = 25 mins, sun's race = 40 mins).

both days were good racing, but sunday's race was incredible; it is by far the toughest race i have ever been in. it was 40 mins of non-stop, knock down, drag-out action, with three of us in the melee mix. i was PRAYING for the white flag to fly! from the drop of the green, til the checker finally came out, there was not a second of rest or relaxation....

scott's (2nd place white SE-R in PTE) video footage is impressive to watch! at times we were splitting lapped cars and were running three abreast (me, scott, and darren (blue PTE integra driver)). darren was forced off the track at least once by a miata, and once he went on the grass intentionally on the front straight to pass a log-jammed miata pack (all i could see in the rear view was a monster cloud of dust!).    oh, and at the start of the race, i am gridded next to a PTD Miata MX-5 Playboy Cup car (should be much faster than us PTE'ers).  i get a good start and take him and lead the whole pack for a lap, and then he misses a shift and grenades his motor (it was his first test day ever in the car!!!!!).

the track was disintegrating really badly, due to the extreme heat and the patches were melting and tearing up; off-line was treacherous, and i almost lost it a couple of times when i misjudged the 'marbly areas'....   i had to constantly watch my mirrors and protect the inside line, to keep the SE-R from slipping by me and into the lead!  even with that terrible track (most classes were turning laps 1.5 to 2 seconds slower than the track record) we got down to within 0.4 secs of the track record (i hold the record at 1:27.110).  if it had been a 'good' track and cool weather, i'd have been in the high 1:25s (so would darren, and scott), i am confident of that!).

holy cow, that was some racing! when i was packing up, several groups of folks came by to say that it was one of the most exciting races that they had ever seen, and that they were happy that they had stayed to watch, instead of leaving for home!

here is the 2nd place PTE SE-R's incar footage:

Sunday 4 of 4
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W6QfvcxjhCM   (SE-R's camera battery gave out on the last lap;  i hold on to win by a margin of 0.17 secs!  3rd place was just 0.51 secs behind me).

the tires had gone away bigtime by the end of the race (they are SMOKED now;  that was their 13th race!).  my brakes were perfect;  rock solid the entire time;  it is IMPOSSIBLE to fade the brakes, no matter what the condition, with the ReidSpeed BBK!  i wish i had better tires;  the only reason i can't brake later and deeper is because of impending lockup of the tires!!!

i can't wait for the next round (hyperfest at summit point) in june!!!!

enjoy.

Passing on the grass is fun Smile Don't let them tell you it can't be done!

I'm getting ready for Hyperfest already.  I have a larger front master cylinder to put in and a balance bar adjuster that I'll be trying out at RTR Pocono.  Bring the Probe up!!!

hey darren!

shouldn't you be putting in a smaller dia master cyl?  that will give you more travel, and make the effort less, compared to the way it is now?

i think the probenstien needs a rest!  and i'm signed up for hfest already, too....  i'll be putting on a fresh set of tires for the last half of the season, so watch out PTE'ers!   Cool

The problem is too much pedal travel, it bottoms out, so if I cook the fluid at all I'm worried I'll have no brakes!  The larger front master will require more pedal effort but less pedal  travel.  I'm not looking forward to the more pedal effort -- it already takes probably 80 lbs of force for full brake engagement.  That's just the way it is though because of the small size of the caliper pistons.

you should go to the bigger calipers and rotors like i use on the race honda;  11.3" Prelude rotors and Legend GS dual piston calipers....   they stop my 160+ mph honda really well!

Yeah I think that is the way to go! I have to figure out what year parts are compatible, should be the same exact parts as your car.

i can help with that;  you need:

1992-1995 Prelude VTEC front rotors.  they have to be redrilled for a 4x100 bolt pattern.  ReidSpeed stocks these rotors, machined and ready to go.  i sell them for $100 each.

1994 Legend GS front calipers (these are the dual piston units).  or, you can use 1997 Integra Type R front calipers (single piston), or 1994 Accord Wagon (same as Integra Type R), or Prelude VTEC front calipers (also the same as Type R).  the Legend GS are the best;  but i'm sure that the Type R would do you fine!

you need to have the brackets from whichever calipers you picked up machined down 0.120" to make them fit properly.  after that, its a direct boltup situation.

if you want, sometime you may come to my place and examine the brakes on my Civic racecar....
