Pulled the trigger on a Bendpak MD-6XP mid-rise lift.  Arrived last week.

The lift works great... lifts the cayenne and 993 with ease.  It's an absolute joy working on a car standing up, rather than cramped under jack stands.  My only question is "why did I wait so long"?  Dealer quoted me $2000 to do the brakes and rotors on my cayenne.  Spent $800 on parts from Sunset and tackled the job on Friday night.  Also swapped out the mufflers on my 993 in about 1 hour.

The 993 is too low to drive over the lift, so I had to build ramps with 2x12s (carpeting the ramps is a definite sign of OCD).  I just leave the 993 parked on the ramps, and no-one even knows there's a lift in the garage.  Full lift height is 53" with the SUV extensions, but operating height for the 993 is about 46" (plenty high for me).  Needed to add aluminum plate under the rollers to prevent scoring on the garage concrete.

So, who's going to help me with the RS clutch and lightweight flywheel install this winter?  Beer & Pizza is on me.

I thought you didn't know how to change brake pads Smile  Have you been getting tutored?

Yeah, I've been "tutored" if you call diving in head-first without a clue and making every mistake possible for three years "tutoring". Every project ends up requiring three trips to the hardware store, Pep Boys, or Lowes; five times the allotted time, several band-aids, torn medial meniscus (yes, that actually happened to me last year working on my car, and required arthroscopic surgery) a few stripped bolts, waiting 2 weeks for the second round of missing parts from Pelican or Sunset, eventually culminating in the semi-orgasmic satisfaction of completing the job myself. And the prize after all that effort typically amounts to saving a few hundred bucks, all at the bargain price of 10-15 hours of my billable time. (I'm a real smart guy huh?).
