- ccm911 - 12-04-2009 Hello: Has anyone ever resealed their oil cooler(on engine) with the engine in situ? I have ordered the seals, and am hoping that this will not be a large job. I read the tech article on Pelican written by Steve Stomski, but it was kind of vague. In order to make my car oil-tight once again, I plan to replace the O-ring on the engine thermostat, replace the valve cover gaskets(along with a valve adjustment), replace an oil line, and also replace the axle flange seals on the trans. Is there anything more annoying than a leaky 911? Thanks. - AMoore - 12-04-2009 Leaktight aircooled 911? Is there really such a thing? Not that there is anything wrong with that. I used to put a quart in every 700 miles or so in my 87 Carrera. Oddly, nothing on the garage floor though. And as for that other issue for older 911s. A little white smoke at startup. No big deal since I love the smell of nepalm in the morning. - fawudd - 01-31-2010 Both of mine have a few small leaks. Some of it is down to limited use so the seals get dry and brittle (it's always the least accessible seals ;-). I have seen folks spend a lot of time effort and money trying to get oil-tight, and I have seen cars not maintained very well with fewer leaks than mine. I have learned to just note where the leaks are and monitor them.... http://classicvelocity.squarespace.com/1970-porsche-911-e-coupe/ |
