au·to·cross (ô't?-krôs', -kr?s') n. - A form of motor sport that emphasizes safe, low-cost competition and active participation. An autocross is a timed competition where drivers navigate one at a time through a temporary course marked by traffic cones. Autocross tends to place more emphasis on car handling and driver skill than on sheer horsepower.[/b]

WELCOME TO RTR AUTOCROSS in 2010

1) YOUR AX sub-committee are delighted to confirm that SPECIALTY CARS of Allentown have come back on board for the fourth year running as the official sponsors of the 2010 RTR AutoX+ Roadshow Series. The owner, Mark Burkit, has been working on Porsche cars for 30 years, and has built SCCA National XP Class Autocross Champion Dave Newman’s 911 from the ground up.  Their shop does everything from PA state inspections, brakes, suspension and oil changes to full restorations and track preparation.  They also have customers who race in the HSR series.  Please thank Mark for his continued support and kind sponsorship of our Roadshow series by using their shop whenever possible and by visiting their website site http://www.specialtycarsservicecenter.com.

2) We will continue with the successful AutoX+ Roadshow & Championship format in 2010. The Roadshow is a ‘just for fun’ series for any RTR members interested in attending more local AX events. In addition to holding our own RTR Planes and Porsches Charity AX (see below), we will aim to attend 5 other local PCA & SCCA events once a month over the summer months. For those who would like to compete in our Championship, points will be awarded according to final finishing position, based on a PAX-scoring system designed to even out the performance of different types of cars.

The 2010 Schedule is now confirmed as:

A) Sunday 25 APR 10        Reading SCCA at Maple Grove Drag Strip
B) Sunday 09 MAY 10        Central PCA at Hershey
C) Saturday 26 JUN 10       Family BBQ at SPECIALTY CARS, Allentown
D) Sunday 25 JUL 10         Philly SCCA at Warminster
E) Sunday 15 AUG 10       RTR ‘Planes and Porsches #3’ Charity AX, Reading Airport[/i]
F) Sunday 26 SEP 10         Central PCA at Hershey
G) Sunday 17 OCT 10        Delaware PCA at Dover

Information and entry instructions will be posted on the forum approx 2-3 weeks before each event.

3) The 2010 RTR ‘Planes and Porsches’ Charity AX will be held at Millennium Aviation, Reading Airport on SUNDAY 15[suP]th[/suP] August. We will keep with the same successful format as 2009 with 60 entries (including 20 gold passes [i.e. no work assignment]; 2 cars on course at once; (even) better food to be included in the entry fee; more vendors in the aircraft hangar. Registration will once again be via motorsportsreg.com, which we expect will open on 1st JUNE (ish) so if you haven't got an account set up yet, now's the time

4) Finally, I am pleased to confirm that Vee & Mike have agreed to continue serving on our AX subcommittee and they will be joined by AX rookie Ian Curtis and AX expert, Steve Landstra
