- betegh9 - 03-01-2011 I know that Porsches are great, fast cars. With he advancement of technology, are these cars enjoyable (for the $$$$$$) to drive on the local streets and roads at little over the speed limits? Or Are they only great at the track? I drive a 42 year old 911, and I feel like a kid in the candy store every time I go for a ride....... do you guys feel the same with the new overpowered fast new Porsches? I have been lucky to have owned a rust free '69 911T for over 14 years, and I don't remember any time regreting any part of the ownership. I have a massaged 3.2 L engine with a 915 transmission, SC flares, 23 and 30mm torsion bars and turbo brakes. Other than maintenance, really have not done much to the car in the last 5 years. When I first started with RTR and NNJR autocross, with my skills, I had one of the fastest cars and finished with many first places and FTD's. As time passed, I found that many people were arriving with faster and faster cars and my trophies were diminishing year to year. I drive my car to and from events, track and AX....It is still a great road car and can hold my own on the track in the black and instructor groups, enjoying every crack and undulation of the pavement. Controling the car with just your own manual imputs without computer aided devices at speed is exciting and rewarding. The connection I have with the car to the road is like no other. I have been asked to sell my car to others that would like to feel that excitement at REAL SPEEDS, but I enjoy this car so much that I have to keep it till the car reaches its 50th birthday, and then, who knows? - Phokaioglaukos - 03-02-2011 Nick, I encourage you to give up your overpowered 911 and get into a proper race car that will reward momentum driving. The 2CV I raced in the 24 Hour last fall at Snetterton has the regulation 602cc engine (highly tuned, though) and a lowered and stiffened suspension. It rewards drivers on the proper line with good racecraft in drafting and passing. You car would had just powered on by without the need for any skill at all! I've become so enamoured of a true race car without all the power your car has that I have put my street GT3 up for sale. Give it a try--you'll love its excessive power but still will not have to suffer computer aids or electronic nannies, nothing by ABS to save your tires and your own abilities. - betegh9 - 03-02-2011 Sorry, I can't find a 2CV around here. What would it cost to send a few to this side of the pond and start a series here? |
