I worked with an out-of-region driver (Frank) on some driving techniques during the rainy day on Saturday.   His skill set is that of a former racer and at Black level in the DE format.  Frank had not been to Pocono, but quickly found pace and settled in so we then proceeded to work on left foot braking techniques to gain corner entry speed and added grip.  The attached data comparison file shows how significant this can be on car control and overall corner speeds.  Car is a 964 (with Toyo's tires) set up for the track, but includes a stock interior.

Prior to applying the learned technique:  violet speed trace, lt grn is the long G's (braking and acceleration data),  lt purple is the Lat G's ( cornering grip).

Following a session of demonstrating the techniques, then guiding the driver through the process of using it.   red is the speed trace, Yellow long G's,  Purple, lat G's.

The speed difference is obvious, but the reasons are evident in the long/Lat G's traces.

Notice how the yellow line shows from full throttle to immediate brake applications (sharp drop off while breaking).  The difference here alone is worth over a 1 second a lap.  The long G trace (yellow) also shows less ABS introduction while using the technique and higher sustained Lat G's  in mid-corner.  The added bonus is a more stable car with even better exit speeds leaving the corner!!   The end result was a car/driver combination that was on pace with any car on the wet track.  The driver's response was it felt much smoother, predictable, and he had what he called a major break-through on his skill set.   So use your wet track days to learn car control.  I also must include the following disclaimer:  I do not suggest any driver attempt this technique without someone knowledgeable in the car with them.   I spend more and more time tuning the driver and not the car.  I find there is an infinite learning curve in this sport and the more I learn, the more I realize how much longer the road is.
