- emayer - 09-19-2011 Two words: Holy cow! I had the opportunity of racing an SRF- Spec Racer Ford (120 hp mid-engine standardized series) at WGI long and short courses this past weekend. By way of comparison, the car is very predictable and behaves not unlike an air-cooled era 911. Driving a clean line, drafting, and maintaining momentum is paramount with this vehicle. Quite a different approach than with the cars I've been playing with so far. Making things more fun is the fact that the race had 38 participants! There was no shortage of car contact, crashes and spins in that dense a field. I narrowly averted a spun car by driving onto the off track tarmac at speed- (remembering not to lift!) in turn 11. Unfortunately, my family was in the grandstands there and saw the whole incident unfold. My wife was non-plussed...hock: The main reason I wanted to place this post was to really thank our wonderful cadre of RTR instructors. Their excellent teaching has really allowed me to form a solid knowledge base to even consider branching into other aspects of motorport. I'd like to think that I did them proud in my first SRF outing, having placed 19th and 17th in the field of 38. More importantly, my lap times continued to fall each time I was out there. Just a matter of more seat time and experience.... Consider me hooked! -E - scwaters - 09-20-2011 Way to go Eric. Knew you had it in you the first time we drove together in the rain at WGI. - emayer - 09-21-2011 Thanks Sunny! Dude, you're crazier out there than I am. I think you should give racing a try! -E - rbasales - 09-21-2011 Eric, Sounds like you had a blast, thanks for sharing. See you on the track. |
