Have an 83 944 with 79000 original miles. Engine runs great, but I am recently hearing a metallic noise at 2900 rpm through 3050 rpm. It doesn't matter what gear I am in or even if the engine is under load. It abruptly goes away above 3050 rpm. Any ideas?

When was the last time timing belt was done or tension checked?

4 weeks ago everything was replaced. Last week belt tension was checked and retensioned.
