I will be going to the 24 Hours of LeMans 2012 next June.  I'm looking for information and/or advice from anyone who has attended.  Good viewing sites, where to go in case of bad weather, Porsche event sites, places with decent food etc.

Also, does anyone have any contact information for Dave Donohue?  Assume he will be driving there again and he might have some insights.

Many thanks.

Don

Went a few years back.  Went with a hospitality group out of London.  Flew right into Le Mans had a hosptality tent with facilities and libations RIGHT ON THE TRACK.  If you do nothing else take the 1:00 AM bus tour to the Mulsane Straight and walk for 10 minutes in the oposite direction of the corner.  Stand there and drink it in. I can run the footage and soundtrack of standing by myself up against the catch fence as the cars headed towards the chicane in my head anytime I want.  That alone was worth everything it cost.  Hospitality tent came in handy as it was a wet race.

You should talk to Mike Pechstein next time you see him. He has gone to the race as well, and his wife is from France, so he should be a wealth of information regarding where to stay and what to do.

I went to Le Mans 3 years running when living in the UK
we'd get the ferry then drive to the course thurs to monday to miss traffic
1 year when in us, I flew to heathrow, got train to paris and local train to le man - easy enuff

we always camped in the campsite behind the Porsche curves and would watch from the grass bank ........ but mainly we'd drink and 1 year, I didn't actually watch any of the race.

We'd go to the town swimming pool each day to shower.

Best place to watch for me is:
Start / Finish straight -- have to be a member of the ?LCO to get seats
arnage - when get a real sense of braking and acceleration of the cars

The diesels were just starting when I was there and it was really spooky how quiet they were compared to the Corvette V8s and high wining ferrari's

Visiting the town is great esp if there during the drivers parade

Everywhere is expensive ....... and we live on burgers/ hotdogs etc - never trying to eat anywhere nice as all pre-booked
