What do you all think about helping drivers remember cold tires, cold track and cold driver?

- LouZ - 03-09-2007

No

I read about the GT3 spinningConfusedhock:

Red and Black know better

White SHOULD know better

Blue and Green have Red and Black instructors that know better

I agree with Lou.

Well stated Lou.

I am going to be the dissenting opinion here.  It only takes one aggressive fool to spoil it for the rest of the group.  I have been in upper run groups with other regions and have been blacked flagged the first lap because someone went off. (Both times this was the second day of the weekend)  Lost most of that session.  I see no harm in driving one lap under yellow for the first session of each day to make sure the car is right, the driver gets warmed up and the tires and brakes are ready to perform. The yellow is just a little extra reminder to be smart and safe.  I don't think the people participating in this forum are the ones the yellow will help but some people need the reminder. And its sure beats having the session black flagged.

Dissension noted. Is the black flag causing non-thinker much wiser on the 2nd lap?

You know Brian that is an excellent point and one that I think deserves serious consideration when thinking about who the rules are for when they are made. Many of the DE participants don't take it quite as seriously as many of us participating here do.

Somehow, I got the distinct impression from my Instructors that the first lap was to be run SLOWLY and CAUTIOUSLY so as to warm up the whole car:

TiresSmile

BrakesWink

Engine OilBig Grin

I'll continue to start each session this way, with or without a YellowFlag.

I noticed a much slower first lap once the group restarted.  So it obviously got everyone thinking about a cold track, cold driver, and cold tires. (even conservative me) Ok so if we sacrifice one car at the beginning of each day this takes away the need for yellow first lap.  Confusedhock:

No the black flag causing non-thinker is towed off the track and out for the rest of the weekend with a damaged car.
