All Right - This category is DEAD! Isn't anybody here interested in club racing!? If you are not, then you obviously have not tried it. There are several easy options that will enable one to get a license. NASA and SCCA offer excellent drivers schools, both of which are popular and well established at Summit Point. I suggest renting a miata from Meathead, RP Performance, etc. This is an excellent way to inexpensively rent a race car, get race experience and secure a competition license. Once you participate in your first race, I guarantee you will be hooked.

Another option is to take the PCA route, for those of you in the black/run red group. It's been a while, but I think it simply requires the chief instructor to sign off on your application, a medical examination and a few $$ for the rookie license. If you are motivated and have enough experience, you can obtain the license relatively quickly - within 3 months, easily. Just in time for the club race at NJMP. Lets go!!

got one thanks .......... but I ABSOLUTELY ABSOLUTELY ABSOLUTELY recommend going racing to anyone who is in to DE. If nothing else, race school is nothing but loads of cheap seat time and it will definitely make you a better driver..... even if you don't race

I did the SCCA 3 day double race school at summit 2 years ago with Washington DC region. Over the space of 3 days, I dropped 4s off my lap time at summit (in the same car) and then during the racing season (primarily at summit), I dropped another 3s.

These three days were literally the best 3 days of my life .... so if you are even just almost nearly thinking of considering doing it ........ JUST DO IT!!!!!!

For a taste of racing vs DE, here's a link of the day 3 end of school (3 part) race - it includes everything in racing - a double file start then a single file start then double again for the official 5 lap race - watch out for the rookie missed gear change during start #1 plus lots of undertaking, overtaking, overtaking around the outside ..... and just a little bit of contact ..... well I was in a spec miata !!

+1 on the WDCR SCCA school at SP. Excellent instrcution and a ton of fun. Rent a Miata to do it. You WILL need track support because every minute you are not on track you are in class and SOMEONE needs to fuel the car, wipe the windows, check fluids and tire pressures, etc.

McPorn - is that the new 92 car in your avatar?? I'm diggin the paint job. When will it make it to the track?? Turbo miata....I gotta see that sheet.

Yes but no

the hood needed to be cut up to help air flow thru the intercooler ...... but I couldn't bring myself to hack up the beautiful paint work

so we took the handpainted red and white hood, fenders and doors off the car ..... bought second hand ones and the car has been repainted from red to hot rod flat black

I still have the painted hood, fenders and doors - may end up putting on another red car or trying to sell - not sure yet

wanna make me an offer??

I'm in....got my PCA Provisional / Rookie Permit a few weeks ago. If my motor ever gets back from the rebuild I'll be racing.

what are we racing??

I've been offered the opportunity to co-drive a 964 "H" car in enduros. My SCCA National license expired in 1976. Thinking about it.

Racing is Awesome!

I'm in my second year of SCCA racing in the SRF class.
It's relatively inexpensive to rent a car for a race weekend and the competition exciting for all abilities. Being part of a field of more than 40 cars is something that has to be experienced.
