I thought I'd post this here since we DE folks probably have the most interest in this.

Just read the release about the merger of these two series. While I watch them both, I've always been partial to ALMS. It wasn't explicitly stated but like all mergers of equals, someone is always the acquiror and someone gets the short end of the stick. I guess the France/NASCAR juggernaut rolls on.

Anyone else have thoughts?

I watch both series, but you knew eventually one would prevail.

Let's face it, Grand Am, with the France/NASCAR financial backing, has more clout with TV, sponsors, tracks, fans, etc. just because of those guys going round and round on those ovals over on Fox.  That clout allows us to watch the kind of racing that is more akin to what we do in DE and Club Racing...and that's OK by me.

Money always wins.

To me, there was no comparison between the two.  I drove to Mid-Ohio to watch ALMS.  I never drove to New Jersey to watch the Rolex boys.

It is a shame that a broad range of European teams never participated in ALMS.  Until this year, the Rolex pseudo-prototypes were just too ugly to watch.  Comparing the Rolex cars to real (French) Le Mans prototypes is like comparing Miller-64 to a fine English bitter.
