Use your AX skills to save a life: Street Survival - Phokaioglaukos - 03-13-2013
If you are an experienced Autocrosser, we need your help.
PCA National and the Riesentöter Region are proud to support the Street Survival school, a safe-driving program designed to go beyond today’s required driver’s education and give teens the driving tools and hands-on experience to become safer, smarter drivers. If you qualify, we need you to give a student in-car driving instruction on Saturday, 13 April, at Warminster Community Park in Warminster, PA. This is a new program for RTR and for this first event we will be cooperating with experienced organizers from the DelVal BMW CCA Chapter and the Philly Region SCCA. The death toll for 16- and 17-year-old drivers of passenger vehicles jumped 19 percent in the first half of 2012, compared with the first half of 2011. If the trend persists, it would be the second year of increased deaths for teenage drivers in this age group after eight consecutive years of decline. The Street Survival school will put you in the passenger seat of a teen student’s car to drive exercises on an autocross-like course. Teen Street Survival is a great program that truly benefits the community and helps save lives. We really need your help. It's an immensely rewarding experience for instructors, and can be life saving for students. We hope you can give your time to the program.

A great day where students learned elements of car control and pushing and or exceeding the limits of the car's capabilities.
One student was concerned that he wouldn't find the limits on such a "slow" course. Needless to say, he exceeded the limit on more than one occasion. Everyone learned a lot and from the faces it looked like everyone had fun doing it. Good excercises for street survival or as a primer for AX or DE.
Kudos to all who put together a well organized event.

Paul, Steve and Brian ran a first rate event, and introduced a number of members to the challenges of AX, but with a more street driving bent. The people I rode with made significant progress quickly, and I believe that they will be safer on the street for exploring the limits of their cars in a safe environmment.
That so many instructors came out on a beautiful spring day to ride in someone's car is a credit to our Club. The program was similar to a Tire Rack Street Survival® course for teens, but shorter with more time on the range and less in the classroom. I think it was great for our adult drivers!
