Floor Jack - areex81 - 03-17-2013

I am looking for a new 3-ton Aluminum Low Profile floor jack and would like some suggestions. I would like this jack to last a long time.

Amazon has a lot of listings and reviews and it appears that the cheap jacks ($100-$200) have a high failure rate in the first year or two. I am thinking of an Arcan-ALJ3T for $249 or a Torin T84030 for $208.89. I would like to keep it below $200 but that doesn't seem likely.

I know a steel jack is cheaper but they can weigh 30-40 pounds more.

On a side note, the jack stands I currently have, have the "U" shape extension. Any ideas on how I can continue to use these stands?

Thanks.

I have had this one for a few years with no problem whatsoever

Some people put harbor freight down and they are cheap on some things, yet they come through on others...it's pot luck but for me this one works perfectly

Totally understand the whole floor jack thing. I am on my 2nd Craftsman jack. Although this one lasted a couple of years longer, it still leaks from the hydraulic cylinder. To replace it would cost about $151 in parts and maybe 1/2 hour of my time to unbolt the old one and install the new one. I'm pretty much at the point that I'd rather spend that money towards one that is a bit higher in quality. Pelican & Rennlist forums are filled with floor jack suggestions. Harbor Freight is a good suggestion, I have one of those as my traveling jack that I take with me to the track due to it being much smaller and will fit into my trackbox.

If you can go with a 2-ton jack (for cars - not trucks or SUVs), then I recommend OTC aluminum racing jack. It's light and has worked great for me so far.

This is the one I got: http://www.amazonsupply.com/otc-1533-aluminum-anniversary-edition/dp/B002QMV70M

You may want to search around as I got the above deal - including 2 jack stands - for about $235 on Amazon... seems like the price has gone up a bit...
