Last week I had a short test drive in a Tesla S in my neighborhood and this Saturday I'll have a longer one in Valley Forge. It's an interesting car, and I'm giving it serious consideration. I also sent off a request for a test drive in a BMW i3.
I am increasingly convinced that even though most manufacturers of cars are producing hybrids there is a real future for electric-only cars. Why, you ask? Because aircraft manufacturers are headed there too. Can you believe Airbus E-Fan?

the tesla is an interesting vehicle for sure...I think they get their add-on checkboxes from Porsche because the base starts out at one price and cha-ching by the time you checkout, you have your wow factor.
Though the electric car is a good start, producing electric is still for the most part, using fossil fuels and that number will drop with hydro, wind, and nuclear but it still isn't clean as everyone thinks, we just don't see it on our end much.
Though I do like the concept of not having to visit a gas station, especially in the chill of winter and for the most part the 286 mile range would suffice over most traveling during the week. If hydrogen ever because a viable option I think this would be the goto solution over time.

A friend of mine, who is also an RTR member has one and he seems to love it.
Personally, I think anything that does not smell like gasoline or spew noxious fumes is a thinly veiled communist plot to take away our manly American mechanical pasttimes.....

The longer test drive was pretty impressive. Some winding roads in VF Park and some highway time. On the twisties the car was remarkably light on its feet for such a heavy vehicle--with all the weight of the batteries low in the chassis tracking was first rate. The torque below 60 MPH or so is remarkably, but from 60 MPH to 100 MPH there is not as much thrust as I would expect from a BMW or Porsche. That said, I am very seriously considering ordering one. I think it would make a great car to have next to a Cayman GT4.

I agree with your assessment as an interesting car. But somehow I can't see getting used to the silence. I think I would start hearing worms crawling on the macadam underneath my seat.
