Cayman S Brake Pad Change - imbisc - 07-22-2015 Hi, I watched a Youtube video for replacing front brake pads, and felt pretty confident with what needs to be done. Pulled the cotter pin, and started to tap the Rod, to release the pads. Here is my dilemma, the rod only budge a quarter inch, shot a little WD40, and was able to move it another quarter inch. Could not get it to budge any further. Tried to see if the pin would turn slightly, thinking the rod was stuck on the opening. Has anyone encountered this issue? Any suggestions? We are going away for vacation, so I put everything back at the moment. Kind of embarassed as I have replaced brakes on other cars, first timer on the Cayman. Thanks Bill RE: Cayman S Brake Pad Change - MylesD55 - 07-23-2015 Bill, Use a bigger hammer Serioulsy though... if you have removed the cotter pin, the only thing holding the guide pin in place is friction. Sometimes you need to push down on the anti-rattle spring clip to allow the guide pin to slide out (with the help of a hammer and small punch). Thanks, Myles RE: Cayman S Brake Pad Change - David Newton - 07-23-2015 I'm not a mechanic, but after getting the resistance you're describing, I used the hammer and punch approach as Myles suggested and it worked just fine. I was a bit nervous and concerned that I'd have to pound it with enough force to smash the rotor, but a tap-tap-tap was all it needed. Good Luck!
