- Tony356993 - 05-21-2007 Due to high demand for track time, the folks putting up all the money have changed the track to comply with regional and financial needs. The large 3.98 track has been changed to 2 tracks. 1. Thunderbolt - about 2.2 miles - the "main" track that will house most of the spectator events and will have the VIP areas in the infield. 2. Lightning - about 1.6 miles. The tracks will have different feels and at Phase 1 will NOT be connected. Having 2 tracks will allow more groups to be satisfied, add member driving days and of course generate more revenue. Maybe RTR can get 3-4 dates at the track since they will be able to run twice the number of events. Thought you might like an update. - Mark Fox - 05-25-2007 Better than pocono, but a far cry from the grand track at VIR. Can we send any correspondence to parties in charge stating that we would really , really really like the two tracks to connect and be more similar to the full course at VIR. - bobt993 - 05-25-2007 Mark, These guys know what they are doing. I am sure they will give consideration to "linking" the two tracks, or designing an "inner loop" for expansion. I would much rather see a successful, well maintained track the size of Summit, than a poorly executed VIR grand course. VIR added the "grand" course of few years ago and most drivers that have tried it don't like it so much (28 turns). If you really want extreme try 72 turns, 13.7 miles in good old Germany. - Mark Fox - 05-26-2007 Quote:try 72 turns, 13.7 miles in good old Germany. That.......a German castle tour and a few beers.........I am thinking more seriously about it everyday. - bobt993 - 05-26-2007 Mark, Tom and I might organize a trip. ( I think I have the equivalent of 20 DE days at the ring). There is also "Spa" which has a Porsche club weekend (about and hour from the ring). I guess this needs a thread for "Who would be interested in a driving trip in Germany?" 900 ft elevation changes, 1.5 mile straightaway. hmmmmmm - Darren - 05-27-2007 I drove down to the Millville Airport for an airshow this weekend -- really not a bad ride at all, I'm really looking forward to this track happening. All things being equal, it's closer than Pocono and can't be worse!!! Though I think we do need a facility in this area to promote non-circle (or triangle) racing. - Mark Fox - 05-28-2007 Quote:Mark, Tom and I might organize a trip.Verdi ingteresting! One track event my wife would attend. - Phokaioglaukos - 05-28-2007 Tony, where did you learn this? The web site is woefully out of date. Can you say where the changes will be on the track diagram that is posted on the web site? - Mark Fox - 05-30-2007 Bob, What month and year are you thinking about?? - Nick - 05-31-2007 I think that sub-phases are a great approach. Pavement will be laid on the North course first. This will begin to cure as the South course is developed. Once both are up and running they could be connected if needed - This would be icing on the cake |
