What is the latest word on this project? Any dirt being moved this year?

These folks really have to learn how to market themselves. They've added something to their website about Memorial Day. Assume it's some sort of groundbreaking ceremony, but it's not real clear.

Maybe if somebody is kicking around the area that weekend they can do a drive-by. Me, I'm headed for the traditional Shore blowout that weekend. (Thought winter would never end!)

Wouldn't one think that this would be a good time to take all of the cash raised for this park and apply it to purchasing NJMP, which is already built?  Seems to me that it would be the way to go.

I doubt much cash was raised. Lou Mascaro has owned this property for some time. The land is probably his equity/the bank's collateral for the construction loan. Probably not very efficient to monetize it in this kind of market.

Looks like construction is now pushed back to Spring 2012:

It is probably a good thing that the owner hired an architect to coordinate and overlook the whole project. The unfortunate part is not having CASH. Land for colateral may be OK, but a solid bussiness plan and additional cash in hand will also be required. Banks will lend $$$$ only if they incur NO risk. They are not interested in land if the project goes bust, they are not in the bussiness of owning land.

You all needed to attend the club meeting last week. If you had you would have heard the news right from the reps from Liberty. They are planning on openning by 2012.

- Brian Minkin - 04-30-2011

I thought I heard breaking ground in 2012 and opening in 2013.

- Phokaioglaukos - 07-13-2012

Anything happening with this one?

(At least NJMP got built, and survived bankruptcy.)

- rhargy - 07-15-2012

I did a drive by in the middle of June and the summer corn was going in. So they obviously are not in a hurry. Heard some grapevine stories that they have not settled on the final plans with the township engineers. Can't say I know the real story, but the evidence suggests even a 2013 season could be shaky.

Union Twp. approves sewer for Liberty Bell Campground

UNION TWP. — The Board of Supervisors has approved the sewage planning module for 226 camp sites proposed for the Liberty Bell Motorsports Park and Campground.

Developer Louis Mascaro has been working with the township for 10 years on land development and zoning issues to build the park and campground. The Motorsports Park will include four racing circuits — two half-mile long tracks that can operate independently or together for a total of .84 miles, and two, 40-foot-wide, 1.5-mile courses that will total 3.11 miles.

Mascaro said the campground will be built on the north side of Route 724 along the Schuylkill River Heritage Corridor and will intersect the Thun Trail, managed by the Schuylkill River Greenway Association.

The Birdsboro Municipal Authority has already approved the sewage planning module that will convey sewage from the campground into Birdsboro on property that is parallel to the Greenway property.

Mascaro expects Liberty Bell to generate 633 jobs as well as “almost $92 million of output of goods and services, over $27 million of employee compensation, and $972,000 of indirect business tax revenue within Berks County.?
