- Tony356993 - 05-16-2007 Brian, What ever happened to your idea of having parade laps for MAW at our DE's? I though it was a great idea and would help our MAW effort. If there is a lawyer holding this thing up, I'm sure Chris or Terry could set him/her straight. I'd love to take my kids onto the track so they could check it out. Is this idea worth $10 or $20 to you DE'ers? You could take a girlfriend or spouse (or both) out on the track for some speed controlled laps. You could run a few parade laps in your tow vehicle. I could muscle up some volunteers if we need them. I know a guy.... - Brian Minkin - 05-16-2007 There is nothing stoping us from doing Parade laps for charity at our events. We just need to get the DE organizers tuned in if there is demand for it. Iam sure someone would step up to the plate and collect money at track out. - JIMK - 05-17-2007 Brian, Parade laps would be a draw - I know I have enjoyed taking my sons out at WGI. Last year at MAW there was the DE experince which I think was a hit; it was run similar to Snidley. The year before it was "Rides for Donations". I know I donated for my nephew to hop rides with a number of instructors. I think all three could generate donations. - Tony356993 - 05-17-2007 Jim, These would be parade laps at reduced speeds. Just wanted to clarify. The treasurer could handle the cash. - JIMK - 05-17-2007 Tony, I understand the parade laps; similar to what WGI does with a vehicles "pacing" the group front & back to make sure no one get too zealous. I was only trying to suggest reviving the "ride in an instructor's car" along with continuing the "DE Experience" might be other fund raising ideas. I guess something to work out would be what type of vehicles would be allowed on the parade laps. At WGI I've seen vans, pick-ups and the occassional motor home. Since WGI collects the $$ and paces the laps they get to set the rules. I don't know Pocono's stance on the track while we rent; can we facilitate the laps or is it something that they would want to do... I've no idea. To point however, if we're allowed to do parade laps, I know I would donate to MAW for the chance to show someone the track from inside my car. I am sure I could get people to the track just for a couple parade laps. I'd probably create a line just with people I know if there were opportunities again for spirited rides in the right seat of an instructor's car. - smankow - 05-21-2007 Tony356993 wrote: Quote:Jim,works for me, Tony - Brian Minkin - 05-21-2007 I spoke with Tom about Parade Laps this weekend and we are going to ask the tracks for permission to run Parade Laps at lunch for the upcoming events this year. If the tracks allow it I will drive the pace car and we will have a Parade Lap program with proceeds going to charity. - Larry Herman - 05-21-2007 Brian Minkin wrote: Quote:If the tracks allow it I will drive the pace car and we will have a Parade Lap program with proceeds going to charity. Good idea. At least we know that the pace car will be driven slowly! Now if you can just keep them on line too. - Tony356993 - 05-21-2007 Thanks Brian for working on this |
