Okay, my camera mount arrived.

I've attached a photo.

My first impressions are as follows:
1) The design is very robust and the mount well constructed.
2) The suction cup is very very stable. I stuck it to our breakfast table and was able to use it as a handle to move the table - no chance of it becoming unstuck. It was also easy to remove by releasing the suction lock and pulling on a tab.
3) Although I show the mount with my camcorder attached, the mount is not long enough to mount (with the camcorder) on the angle of the front or rear windshields. It works fine on the side window.
4) That being said, my digital camera mounts on the front and rear windows without a problem, menaing that the mount can be used in the manner that I intended, i.e., using my digitial camera in movie mode to record footage of AX runs.

So, in summary - a great mount for recording AX runs with a regular digital camera, or a small camcorder, not so good if you have a 'larger' camcorder like mine.

It looks really strong...could you put it on the roof, outside the car?  If you're willing to put it on the outside, you could put it on the small back window, driver side   Wink

Here's a link to some autox video with the bullet cam in and outside the car in various places.  3 of these guys could win the national championship in Kansas later this month...  Corey, Eric and Dan

It is very strong and the manufacturer claims that it can hold upto 3lb in weight. It can mount onto any surface where you can get suction, so paintwork and roof is not a problem.

I was thinking of mounting it on the fender at some point. Smile

My camcorder is around 4.5"x2' and the mount is in the middle of the camera, which means that mounting it on an angle is a problem. The little J bar that attaches to the suction cup and the mounting ball needs to be longer to mount the camera upright.

I can see 2 solutions.

i) mount the camera upside down (not a problem) and use software to rotate the image.
ii) rig/buy an adaptor that allows the camera to be mounted in a different position. I'm inclinded to rig something to allow the camera to be mounted differently.

I'm not convinced this is not do-able with the camcorder, but I'll need to rig an adaptor... some metal strip, a nut and a bold from home depot should do it.

Once upon a time my husband and I ran 25+ events a year... I've been a car nut since I was little Smile

I'm impressed. That's a lot of commitment - and a lot of fun.

It's nice to see how PCA draws all the addicts into one place and encourages them to be bad. Smile

Nice video! Thanks for sharing it. I like that a lot. Big Grin

A few observations come to mind i) Warminster is a nice, long fast course - looks good - I wish I had been there. ii) The two drivers are incredibly consistent in timing and style - are they related? I saw afterwards that their run times fall within a second of eachother and the way they handled the car was almost identical. If I didn't know otherwise I would have sworn that it was the same person in a different helmet.

How fast is the course and how high do you get in the gears?

Great vid, great course - like Wellard says - nice & long & fast

Looking forward to next autoX on 8th Oct - has anyone signed up yet??

website says to sign up beforehand but subaru guy said on the day was OK

Wellard - I think they have set a new standard in video production and the challenge has been laid down - think you're up to it?????
