- 356D - 05-28-2007 Has anybody replaced the factory antenna on the left front fender? I have a genuine red-tip antenna that I want to put in place of the stocker but can't really see an easy way to get to it without removing the door or the fender. I would rather not do either, so any advice would be appreciated. Thanks! - LouZ - 05-28-2007 Did you look to see if there is an inner fender that is removeable thru the wheel well? I have a plastic one on the 964 that, when removed, gives excellent access to the front coolers and piping back to the door frame. - 356D - 05-28-2007 There are 2 hex head bolts at the top and others elsewhere, but they appear to be the ones that attach the fender to the body. I don't see a panel that I can easily remove. I'd really hate to take the fender off, at least until I'm ready to commit to major body work. - porsh111214 - 06-06-2007 My son hasn't liked my black manual antenna for about 3 years and has been hounding me to replace it. So two months ago I bought a Hirschman. I found out why I hadn't been so eager to change it when my hands didn't fit in the jamb. Yes, you will have to remove the door. It is simple but the door is HEAVY. Mark the hinge placement and account for any shims behind the hinge on the door post. If you have any electrics going to the door, that creates another situation. Support and wedge the door from underneath and only move it as much as you have to. You will scrape up the paint on the door bolts so you might want to have some touch up paint on hand. Klein's on Sumner Street can probably mix some Dupont Centari for about $40 a quart. Good luck! |
