I am in need of new track tires before the Glen.    I've had good experiences in the past with the Tire Rack and will most likely order MP Sport Cups in 18" this week.

They have an optional heat cycling or shaving process.    Does anyone see necessity in this?   Also, can anyone recommend a local shop that stocks 225/40/18 at comparable price where I might avoid shipping charges?

Thanks,

Tire Rack is the only US distributor of MPSC

MPSCs do not need to be shaved or heat cycled.  For an R compound tire, they wear like iron and after the initial scrub-in become fast and stay that way beyond the 10~15th heat cycle.

Josh,

I cannot say enough about MPSC's. Good choice. Don't shave/heat - just be patient and make sure they heat up fully each session.

I have nothing to add - how can you top responses from our two Resident Geniuses Smile

MPSC do not require heat cycling or shaving.  They are a different animal compared to other R compound tires.  The only thing I did not like about them is the total lack of grip in cold temps. They also hydro plane in heavy rain due to minimal tread depth.

Looks like I got beat out by the resident genius crowd but they give great advice.

I was reading Grassroots Motorsports the other day and saw that the BF R1 is back.  Anyone tempted to try them?

A guy with a 964 cup had them at Mid Ohio and said they are as good as Hoosiers.

Thanks everyone quick responses.   I really like the Tire Rack and was a few clicks away from completing my order when the heat cycling option popped up.
