When planning to install a harness restraint system in the car, which system is prefered for DE type driving... 5-Point or 6-Point harness?
Do the aftermarket seats universally fit either system, or do you need to specify?

pay attention to Redline man's posts, he is a self proclaimed expert on the subject (John, does know alot about this topic).
Personally for me it is a 5pt., if something bad happens, I would rather have the harness take out my boys than my wife!!!

I understand how the 5-point would affect the family jewels, but I'm not clear about the 6-point comment (?). :?

But if you want to protect the boys with a five point harness, just make sure the lap belts are slung low and snug across your hips. The sub-strap between your legs is meant to keep the lap belts in place. Properly secured lap belts are keeping your hips in place, thereby preventing you from sliding down (submarining) through your harnesses.
This is all from a self-professed “non-technical, non-expert�?. The clearest thing to understand is that safety installations are not the area to skimp on expert installation or tutelage.

A 6 point belt properly mounted will be more comfortable than a 5 point one, for the reasons mentioned. It is hard to properly mount one down through the seat because the sub hole is usually not wide enough. It should be on the order of 6~8" wide to allow a mounting spread of around 10~12".
Team Tech has solved this problem with their Jet Pilot harness. They call it a 7 point, but in reality, it is a 5 point with 2 straps that wrap around your legs to keep your torso in place. It is very comfortable, but a little more difficult to jump into. I have it in my car.
