YOUR CAR MUST BE TECH INSPECTED NO MORE THAN TWO WEEKS BEFORE COMING TO THE TRACK.

YOU MAY NOT TECH YOUR OWN CAR. (Please See Full Requirements Below)

GRID TECH IS NOT A TECH INSPECTION

Arriving At The Track

Participants must register first before coming to Grid Tech (registration bands will be checked at tech). Grid tech opens shortly after the track opens each morning. You must attend each morning you plan to participate. Specific Grid Tech times will be provided in the schedule provided prior to the event. Please register and get to the grid tech line as quickly as possible after arriving at the track.

Before you line up for Grid Tech, please make sure that there are no loose items in your vehicle (including your Frunk/Trunk). Make sure your assigned numbers for the event are on your car, and please remove your EZPass.

When it is your turn to be tech’d, please listen to the instructions from the Tech Team. The Tech Team will be checking the engine bay, your frunk/trunk, lug torque specs, gas cap, and brake pads and brake lights.

In order to be as efficient as possible, please pop your engine compartment, frunk/trunk and know the torque specification for your vehicle.

Grid tech will close just prior to the drivers meeting (about 8 AM, but check schedule). Late arrival at grid tech could cause you to miss run groups so please be prompt.

Helmets

Only Snell 2020 & 2015 SA certified helmets will be accepted at our events. Any driver/passenger without an RTR approved Snell 2020/2015 SA helmet will be denied participation at RTR track events.

Vehicles

Participants should know how to disable their collision avoidance systems for vehicles that have them. Such systems must be disabled in order to participate in HPDE events. SUVs, Minivans, and trucks are not allowed to participate on the track for HPDE events.

Harnesses

If the participant chooses to install a five, six, or seven point driving harness, several changes to the automobile must be made to create a safe occupant restraint system. Harnesses must:

  1. Include an antisubmarine strap.
  2. Five, six or seven point SFI or FIA approved competition harnesses are required and must be properly mounted in accordance with the manufacturer’s specifications. Belts must be replaced no later than five years after the date of manufacture. It is left to the owner's discretion as to whether the belts should be replaced more frequently than required.
  3. A 4-point harness, such as a Schroth QuickFit Pro, is acceptable for use with a required HANS device as long as it is made specifically for your make and model car and mounted properly.
  4. Be used in conjunction with a seat that has the supplied routing holes for the shoulder and antisubmarine belts.
  5. Have the shoulder straps mounted in an approved manner consistent with the manufacturer’s instructions.
  6. The participant should BE AWARE that the addition of such a seat and harness system results in the occupant being fastened upright in the vehicle. Therefore, in order to have a COMPLETE SYSTEM, a properly padded roll bar or roll cage is recommended, and an approved head and neck restraint device is required. A head and neck restraint device certified as meeting the standards of either SFI 38.1 or FIA 8858 or its successor is required. The use of such a harness system without roll protection and a head and neck restraint device may result in an unsafe environment and is not a COMPLETE SYSTEM. Roll bars or cages and their installation must meet PCA Club Racing Standards.

When using a head and neck restraint device, it is recommended that one follow the SFI Recertification process for the head and neck restraint device. The instructions for this can be found on the device. Additionally, it is recommended that the straps be replaced every five years.

The SFI standard requires seat belt to be replaced every two years based on date of manufacture. The FIA standard requires the seat belt to be replaced every five years based on date of manufacture. It is left to the driver’s discretion as to whether the belts should be replaced more frequently than required.

Coolant

  1. Owners of 996 and 997 GT3s, TTs and GT2s running conventional coolant (antifreeze) are strongly encouraged to perform upgrades to the cooling systems of these cars (such as pinning or welding the coolant lines) to prevent loss of coolant due to joint failure. Since line/joint failure can result in massive coolant loss and loss of control of the vehicle as well as potential damage and injury to other cars and drivers, some regions are mandating documentation of this upgrade/ fix prior to participation in their event with proof of use of water/water-wetter as an acceptable alternative. While, RTR is not currently mandating either of these, we hope that drivers of these cars will take responsibility upon themselves to insure safety.
  2. Drivers in the Black and Red run groups are strongly encouraged to replace conventional coolant (antifreeze) with water plus water wetter, or a reduced coolant mixture.

Video Recording/Data Devices

  1. GoPro Mounts: All externally mounted video recording equipment must be tethered; no suction cup only external mountings. Internal mounts must be out of reach of driver and out of the instructor’s eye line.

The above requirements will be checked for all RTR Driver Ed events.

Please note: The technical inspection is for your benefit. As a driver, you are responsible for the tech inspection of your vehicle. Your safety as well as that of your fellow drivers may depend on the quality and thoroughness of this inspection. Please emphasize this to your chosen inspector.

Fire Extinguishers are NOT required, but if installed, A 2.5 lb. or larger Halon fire extinguisher (Halon preferred) must be mounted metal-to-metal in your car with proper brackets (highly recommended for white run group and higher).
