+--- Thread: Summit Point Repave (/showthread.php?tid=1738)

- Brian Minkin - 07-03-2009

Once again Summit Point is doing a repave.  This time they are going to dig up turn 1 and 5 and 6.  They are going to pour concrete and then resurface.  Track should be in great shape for our August event.  Work is scheduled to be done July 13 and 14.

I do not doubt they will use poor concrete.

Caught my spelling error Confusedhock:.  Lets hope that this time they have a longer term solution.

Darn, I was looking forward to having the track beat up my car.  Seriously, I hope they find the right combination to keep the track in shape.  I like the track but not when it roughs up my car for no reason.  Perhaps they should consult the folks that built NJMP/VIR.

NJMP was torn up pretty fast after it was built also.  If everyone runs street tires the tracks would be fine -- with the new R compounds and so many people running slicks, the aspalt doesn't stand a chance.

Concrete at Summit is the only solution...I wonder how thick the slabs will be...

That concrete will also be interesting in the rain!

Repave coming?  Fingers crossed... how much fun will that place be if this gets it done for real    [Image: bowdown.gif]      I Love Summit!! Smile

Quote:[size=2]There has been on going research on the status of paving efforts past and recent. Samples have been taken and examined, experts have been consulted. New methods are being looked into in order to provide a better long term result.

Quote:The plan is to repair all of the corners (1,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10) with the oversight of a pro using the most proven techniques available. If there is a long term solution. this will be it. "Cure" time is built into the equation before there is heavy use. The repaving process is scheduled to take place the last two weeks of March and the first week of April.         Jens

I believe Jens is the son of Bill Scott the owner, who just passed away recently.  Looks like they are trying to do the right thing, the first event on the main circuit is NASA April 17-18th.

Yes, I too had heard that they were doing a repaving but I didn't know when. Hopefully it will be repaved and ready for our July event. None the less, glad to hear that they are upgrading the track.

The rumor I have heard is prior to the NASA race in April this will happen.  No better reason to sign up for the GTS race than new track surface and a chance to set a personal best even a track record at Summit Main Course!!!
