Oftentimes building on the skills they learned at Riesentöter Driver Education events, members club race with PCA to test their driving skills and race craft in actual wheel-to-wheel race competition—passing down the straights, braking late into a corner, or anywhere else on track—all without the agreement of the overtaken driver as is required in a DE event.
PCA Club Races are a joint production of the national PCA Club Racing Committee, the PCA National Office and the Regions. The PCA Club Racing Committee maintains the Club Racing Rule Book, determines the Licensing Procedures, and oversees all the planning of a Club Race. One or more Regions or a Zone organizes and finances each Race. In addition to sponsoring PCA club races at Monticello Motor Park starting in 2014, Riesentöter organized the first PCA Club Race at Watkins Glen International (now a Zone 1 race) and lends senior volunteers to the Zone 2 race at Virginia International Raceway.
PCA Club Racing follows three principles:
- First, there should be a class for all Porsche sports cars, including stock street cars, modified street cars and factory race cars.
- Second, the racing should be fun, safe and clean. Along with other several other clubs that sanction races, PCA enforces the “13/13 Rule,” which provides for immediate sanctions against any driver at fault in almost all incidents involving car damage.
- Third, the organization and operation of PCA club races is uniform so that any racer may attend any club race and know exactly what to expect.
The combination of national rules, national licensing, the national committee and the enthusiastic and dedicated host Region volunteers has allowed PCA club racing to build a strong racing program while rigorously adhering to these principles.
PCA members without an existing competition license must apply for and attend a PCA Club Racing School held in conjunction with most PCA club races. The application requires that the applicant (i) present evidence of having completed twelve (12) or more days of Drivers Education events or race track driving training, time trials, race schools or equivalent events within the past 24 months, (ii) provide a signed certification from his or her Region’s Chief Instructor or equivalent, (iii) submit a favorable report of a medical examination and (iv) pay the applicable fee.
With these requirements fulfilled, the applicant will be permitted to attend a Club Racing School as part of a Club Race weekend. Upon successful completion of a Club Racing School, the member will be granted a PCA Club Racing Rookie License and will be cleared to race that same weekend. After successful completion of four (4) incident free events within two years, the member will be granted a Full License.
