Speedometer Sticking - Bill Henwood - 11-10-2014

The speedometer in my 87 Carrera Cab sticks. The car is not driven much (63K miles), so when I take it out it take a few miles before the gauge springs to life! After that it seems fine, but happens again when the car sits overnight. Anyone know the reason and what the fix is?

Thanks

It needs to be cleaned. Mine did the same thing. It will jump right back if you give the glass a sharp rap. Just wait until your odometer gear goes, and then send the speedo out to North Hollywood. I just did it and mine works flawlessly. They do nice work.

It may be that I am at that point now... the rapping on the face has not helped of late. Can you share what North Hollywood cost and how long it took?

Thanks for the response!

I think it was about $80 and it took about a week or so. There is a place around Lancaster, but their quote was way higher than North Holywood.

Plastic gears do not last as long as metal gears....saw the same thing happened on my old HO train engines....after awhile they just fail

Bill, it may be a good idea to have your odometer drive gear replaced while they are in there. Not too much more money, and it is going to break soon. They all do.

Exactly what I am going to do Chris. I appreciate the advice

Bill, did you ever send out your speedo for repair?
