My low mileage 996 (28k) has just encountered the known Coolant Resivoir Leakage Problem. I found a lot of articles on RennTech of a lot people having this same issue. I am not sure if it's the tank, cap or hose that is leaking (not all the time) down onto my exhaust pipe. Some people contacted Regional Porsche Reps. to get them to pay for some it. Has anyone else had this problem ?

Mine was fixed and covered by warranty.

99.9% of the time, it's the reservoir. '03 & newer 996's are a real bear to replace.:X

If it is right over the exhaust, it is the tank.
My expansion tank on my '99 996 went at the track on the morning of day 1. Killed my weekend. Porsche has a newer tank design to help alleviate the issue. Holbert's replaced a friend's tank for right around $400 (I think). I had mine done for quite a bit more more than that somewhere else. New cap comes with the new tank.

Keep in mind that coolant tank/cap are covered under factory warrantee, but NOT under CPO. Porsche knows well that this part does fail and that it's expensive (labor-wise) to replace.

Yeah mine wasn't covered by the CPO. The job is more difficult on the 02+ model (not 03+), but still doable. I had to unhook the motor mounts, remove one of the coolant lines, and remove the air pump.
If you know how to do it it's a 1 hour job...if not it will take 3-4 hours to figure out

Just had mine replaced at Holberts. $384.11. That doesn't include the PCA discount, so you can knock another $38 dollars off of that.
There are some shops that I just wouldn't trust. $800 for a Coolant Resivoir? I would never go there!
