Even though some tracks are not as popular as others... maybe RTR is required to book the lesser tracks in order to get on the better tracks. 

For example, if you want Summit Main, then you gotta take Shenandoah and Jeff, too.  It really benefits the club to support as many of the events as possible.

I'm blue and there are three personal issues that limit my attendance at Jefferson event:

Father's day, wedding anniversary (Jefferson) and wife's bday (Pocono).  I cannot attend both spring Pocono and Jefferson during the same season.  Spring Pocono conflicts with my wife's bday.  

I can't miss Father's day, anniversary and wife's bday within one season.  I have to make a choice.  Pocono is closer and I have a free place to stay.  Decision made.

Even though Thunderbolt and Lightning are more expensive to rent, the proximity to many of our members and what we sincerely hope will be a better quality track and facility may make next year a different story for us, even with $10/gallon gasoline and $12/gallon diesel fuel.

Headed to NJMP on August 5 with NASA/PDA.

It's a little less than an hour and a half from my house, so I'm really hoping (1) it's a good track and (2) it becomes a regular feature on the RTR calendar.

While it took longer and we had to work harder at recruiting folks than normal, we actually have more people coming to Jefferson this year than last, including more green & blue students as well as more instructors.

See everyone this weekend.

This was my first time to Jefferson, and I see why people feel strongly about it.  Overall, I'm very glad that I went.  Here are a few plusses and minuses from a beginner's perspective:

> Plus - It is a good teaching track. This was my first event in Blue with Riesentoter, so I'm still on the steep part of the learning curve.  Jefferson's size and design present much different conditions than Watkins Glen or Pocono.  For me, it was good to have so little time to prepare for each track feature.  I was forced to think faster.  Jefferson packs more gratuitous "features" into each lap than some directors pack gratuitous nude scenes into their movies.

> Minus - It is a good teaching track.  Jefferson has so many small features, so closely together that it is hard to get the same "yee hah" feeling as at the big tracks.  While Jefferson was certainly fun, it made you work for that fun.

> Plus - You get to run Summit Point.  I couldn't stay until Monday, but running two days at Jefferson to run one day at Summit sounds like a good deal to me.

> Plus - Jefferson is close and local accomodations are pretty good.  I had the best Mexican dinner in ten years at "Restaurante Y Taqueria Los Compadres" in Winchester.  (222 E Piccadilly St.)

After hearing Jefferson's negative feedback, I was anxious to compare Jefferson (1.1 miles) with BeaveRun (1.5 miles).  I've attended four events at BeaveRun, and like it very much.  Although BeaveRun is small, it is designed more like a big track.  For most drivers, that means more smiles-per-mile.  However, I will not skip next year's RTR event at Jefferson even if it is the same weekend as a BR event.  Jefferson presents challenges that will help me elsewhere.

It seems like the Pennsylvania Hillclimb Association agrees with Jack Kramer's assessment in class, "Any day on track is a good day.":

Jefferson seems to be the easiest conditions under which these poor buggers get on track.  (Take a look.  They provide an interesting track schematic.)

It seems RTR is not the only club to have lesser attendance numbers for registration to DE events.  The last event I signed up for at Shenenadoah with Potomac region 3 weeks ago was last minute.  They are usually a Porsche only club, but they let me register a few days before the event with my EVO.

Next weekend on June 27-29th is Potomac's big 3-day Watkins Glen event.  I'm taking the GT3 and the EVO and they have space available in ALL run groups and are accepting all marques.  So, you can't say the first event was.... "Well, it was Shenandoah."  This is the GLEN, my friends.

What?  A sign of the times?

I recall that that Potomac has always had problems with the Glen. It's a pretty long pull for most of their members compared to Summit Point and even VIR. They have worried in the past about losing money on the event.

Up until last year the Potomac Glen event was over July 4th weekend.  Because of IRL, they had their date moved.  Because it is the weekend before the 4th, it is less desirable.  This is one possibility why they have reduced attendance for this event.  Historically, for Potomac, it is easy for out of region drivers to get into their glen and mid-ohio events.

If I wasn't on call and if my associate wasn't out sick, I would have gone. 

With the possibility of our region giving up the Jeff/Summit June event, maybe both  regions may benefit from having a joint event at the Glen in June.
