Porsche To Move to Chrin Commerce Centre

EASTON, PA-Porsche Cars North America Inc. plans to move into a 130,000-sf build-to-suit facility in the Chrin Commerce Centre. The building will be the new home of Porsche’s Northeast Regional Support Center which is made up of a Porsche Academy Training Center, Porsche’s Area East Office and new Northeast Parts Distribution center.

"The Lehigh Valley was the best choice primarily from a logistic perspective for parts deliveries and accessibility to the dealers who will be serviced by the facility," Rob Nemchik, the general manager for Porsche Logistics Service tells GlobeSt.com. "The Training Center is for technical training of Porsche Dealership personnel. It is not a repair shop."

Chrin Commerce Centre will be built in Pennsylvania's Lehigh Valley just outside of Porsche’s big market areas such as Philadelphia and New York City. The valley is 70 miles away from each major city.

The new facility will increase operating efficiency and improve customer service. "The northeast region was previously serviced out of the Atlanta Distribution Center," says Nemchik. "The time it takes to get parts to Porsche dealers in the Northeastern US and eastern Canada will be greatly reduced and, at the same time, the cost to ship will decrease. In addition, Porsche will realize the positive synergies of combining three departments in one location, something already established at our facility in Ontario with a great deal of success," Nemchik says in a prepared statement.

Atlanta-based Industrial Developments International will begin construction on the site this fall. The company is expected to move in by summer 2009, pending Palmer Township’s approval. An additional 32,000 sf will be available for further growth. IDI owns the land and will develop the site. Porsche was represented by Cushman & Wakefield by Steve Cooper in Pennsylvania and Ken Ashley in Atlanta. Details of the transaction were not released to GlobeSt.com.

The proposed building will be LEED certified along with Porsche’s green initiatives. "We are environmentally conscious," says Nemchik.

The center will employ 35 employees when fully operational. The Porsche operations in Ontario and Atlanta are two separate importers for Porsche sports cars and sports utility vehicles. Combined, the centers employ about 250 people and provide support, training marketing for Porsche’s 200 US and 12 Canadian dealers.

Porsche Cars North America has announced plans to locate a regional headquarters in Palmer Township, Northampton County. The company has signed a 10-year lease for 130,000 square feet of space in the Chrin Commerce Center, just east of Route 33. It will house a training center, regional offices, and a parts distribution center. Company officials say the headquarters will employ 50 people, half of whom already work for PCNA and the other half of whom will be new hires.

Construction will begin next month and be completed next summer. 

"The facility will provide quick access to markets on the East Coast such as New York City, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C., as well as the ports of New York/New Jersey,�? said Frank Petkunas, Senior Vice President and Regional Development Officer for IDI, the project developer. 

PCNA is an importer of Porsche sports cars and Cayenne sports utility vehicles.
