Gang,

I'm in the process of creating the classroom materials for the upcoming season and I'd like to get your feedback on the type of information you would find valuable as students. 

Let me tell you where I am so far.

Classroom 1:  Morning of first day (first time Green students)[indent]General paddock procedures
Basic Terminology
Communication techniques
Passing procedures
Proper driving position
Basic Skid / Spin control
Etiquette
[/indent]Classroom 2:  Afternoon of first day (Green & Blue students)[indent]Vision - the importance of looking ahead
Cornering basics, the proper & improper line
Types of corners
Braking & shifting
Advanced traction topics
Car prep & safety equipment
[/indent]Classroom 3:  Morning of second day (Green & Blue students)[indent]Anatomy of the track
Corner by corner discussion of track - including video analysis
[/indent]The club has approved the purchase of a projector so I've been able to update the classroom technology significantly including the use of powerpoint animations, in car video playback, and data acquisition displays.

I've tried to address many of the classroom oriented suggestions offered in the "Lessons from other regions" thread. 

In addition to the above, Larry Herman will continue with White classroom sessions over the lunch hour.

What else have you seen be effective in other classroom programs?

Classroom 1 will be a huge help since many of us don't know where we are supposed to be. I remember when I went to my FATT event after the old man let me through the gate I got to the paddock area and thought "okay now what" I didn't know where I was supposed to be or what I was supposed to do.

Day 1 could also include a short "debriefing" or summary of the day in the afternoon for students to think about what they learned that day. Same with Day 2 to keep us revved up for the next event.

One other suggestion, it might be helpful to students, myself included, to have a few instructors in the classroom. It's a great thing to hear the same idea or theory being talked about by a few people, it kinda validates the whole concept of what is being taught.

Jack, I know that before my first event, I was emailed by Mark Reynolds.  He was the "unofficial" RTR mentor.  He was available to answer questions and basically minimize any initial concerns.  He also pointed me in the direction of my instructor.

It would be great if that continued.

Jack,

Great job! Your syllabus looks very comprehensive. My Q is off-topic, and uncertain if it pertains to you, but what do the first timers receive re: recommended stuff to bring to the track? E.G. - paper towels, Windex, etc?

Some of the stuff you ask about is outlined in the track manual on our web site.....

How about you download it, read it and make suggestions as to how we can improve the manual for the future participants.  Your input will be appreciated.



As to Jack's classroom material, I've seen it and you guyys are gonna love it.

Jack,

Great program so far. I would love to sit in if possible and see what you are doing. I might need some of those skills some day. Video is key and power point info will be very helpful. Is it possible for us to walk the track when cold and take still pics of each turn at all the tracks we run. This might be helpful in describing where the correct we wants our students to be. I'd be happen to take the pics and get them to you.

Mike - Right On! I still (after 7 years) read and re-read the RTR driver's manual. I have a copy in a binder in my trailer and "whip it out" to gauge my students reaction. I usually know instantly if they have taken the time to read it or not.

This forum is a great place for students to get info. Maybe we could create a Q & A sticky post with 1st timer typical questions.

John, come out to the super tech on Saturday at Dougherty's. You can have all your questions answered by the people who are involved in the DE program and on any other Porsche related subject.
